I didnt know the english translation for Youjo Senki was the Saga of Tanya the Evil. That title kinda prepares you a bit, pretty cool actually.

I admit I was largely sceptical going in, i'm a bit bothered by Loli characters. Small people with big eyes are a type of demon this side, culturally speaking its always creeped me out, so yeah I've never really trusted moe characters.

in this case though its all out there, hardcore magic, bigotry and zealotous commitment to a cause. It's surprisingly good anime. The war is horrific, out of control, bloody and here's a MC that just thrives in it. I also think its a damn good anime 2 eps in. Really hope it maintains this quality.

See, what drew me to it is that whilst the main character is a Loli, all the promotional stuff for it was very focused on the reincarnation aspect, as well as the fact the character is unhinged. And war is hell... Right now I'm a sucker for anime war stuff. I really hope SOT maintains the quality for the entire run.

Alright, so I watched the first 3 episodes of Youjo Senki, and yup I agree this is a lot of fun in its own weird way. It's especially engrossing to have Tanya coming in on the heels of Shimatsu no Izetta's similar setting but with more interesting characters, a crazier setup and without Izetta's forced lewdness.

Masamune-kun's Revenge is going in odd places. On the one hand, I like how Makabe is being setup as quite the flawed character and Aki's naivete and getting flustered makes her likeable, too, but I'm not sure that the narrative really knows where it's going just yet. And frankly, I wouldn't have minded at all if they had just played the setup straight with Makabe really being (outwardly) smooth as silk, Aki being a huge challenge to seduce, and sticking to a decisive revenge plan. Oh well, it'll be interesting to see where this goes.

Little Witch Academia
is really nailing it. No complaints whatsoever.

And just today I watched the first two episodes of Kuzu no Honkai (Scum's Wish). This might already be my favourite of the season. It's a drama/romance thing... very intense, very cynical. The two main characters - Hana and Mugi - are each hopelessly in love with an older person who they have no chance with, so they start dating each other just to not be so lonely... and then start imagining their crushes instead of each other while kissing and... yeah. The presentation is excellent though - the art-style is subdued, there's some good cinematography and atmosphere - and despite the super-cynical setup it takes a strong/realistic approach to relationships and romance that you don't see much in anime - for example, there's a girl who seems to have a crush on Mugi and Hana outright calls him out on it, telling him he should stop pretending he doesn't realize it and reject her rather than string her along. There's a great scene in episode 2 where two of Hana's schoolmates ask her for relationship advice in deciding between two boys, and it's really well presented how the mere idea of choosing between two boys is completely alien to Hana since she's so completely in love with only one person and can't imagine ever liking two people about as much.

So in short it's so far a really well-done show about some really fucked up romance... and it can definitely surprise you in some pretty powerful ways. Check it out if that sounds like your cup of tea!

Has anyone watched Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! (Gifting this Wonderful World with Blessings)?

I watched the first season in one night, about 11 episodes and quickly caught up to the two episodes of the second installment already out.

It's funny, I laughed through most of it, at times I needed to stop just to try breathe. the art, suits the story perfectly, the characters are typical harem building blocks but each has such a distinctive quirk it genuinely has you rethink everything you knew about that archetype. The Main character is...actually? just go watch it. Its great and I really dont wanna spoil the jokes.

Its worth experiencing with fresh eyes, a gag anime to tear through on a slow afternoon. It's worth your time.

Yeah, I watched the first KonoSuba season when it aired and am watching season 2 now.

It's good, it's funny, but I think it's way overhyped by reddit and some other communities where it is ridiculously popular. There's some weird bits in there like how Kazuma just automatically becomes the party leader despite being the most useless and inexperienced simply because he's the audience-insert, or how they introduce Wiz out of nowhere. I also found Megumin and Darkness to be a bit too one-note, and I wasn't a fan of the succubus episode...

But despite all that it's still funny and I enjoy most of it quite a bit.

Dragon Ball Super's Universal Tournament Arc starts next week, apparently. They've been making a big deal out of it marketing-wise and it actually sounds pretty cool. One of the PVs hints at a female saiyan from another universe that goes Super Saiyan Green like Broly, there's all sorts of different Gods of Destruction, and one of the universe's characters look like they'll be sabotaging things somehow. Plus characters like Tien, Gohan, Krillin, Eighteen, etc are participating instead of it just being Goku and Vegeta. I'm actually excited for it!

I can't find Scum's Wish on Crunchyroll.

Oh, and I binged KonoSuba. It's now a weekly. I loved every second of that. It would have been average to good (Explosion probably puts it at a baseline of good) if not for Kazuma's reactions to the happenings around him.

OK, so here's where I'm at right now.

RWBY Vol4 Ep2: Mother of god this series got heavy quickly. I know that we don't talk about Vol3, but two episodes in Vol4 is just as crushing. The ending of the episode as well was a kerb-stomp. It's really good to see Rooster Teeth able to make me feel feels, because it's showing that they're able to grow.

Tanya, Ep5: Oh this is just straight up FUN. Tanya herself is one of the most entertaining characters of recent years,

Chain Chronicle Pt2E7: Again, a series that has taken a massive dark turn, though it was already very dark for a heroic anime to start with (and there's been a lot of foreshadowing that it'd turn out like this). It's good to see an anime where the heroes have a hard time to the point of multiple defeats at the hands of the villains.

I'll not put thoughts on KS as I've already said above, but it's on the regular rotation list now.

Weekly round uP;

RWBY Vol4 up to E11: Holy mother of shit, what the hell happened? I don't know if the series direction is a direct response to what happened to Monty, but this is starting to watch like something I'd read or write. I like the general aura of despair going on - it actually feels like there's a genuine threat to the main characters now.

KonoSuba, S2E5: Again, entertaining, even if the entertainment generally comes from the familiarity of the characters' oddness. I really like the Darkness / Kazuma vibe - they play very well off of each other.

Tanya E6: A slow one this week, though the action sequence is worthy. Revelations in the latter half - it's still not entirely clear what the overarching storyline is but I think it's about to drop on us.

I also started and am caught up with Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid today. It'd not be quite as enjoyable if not for how the dragons respond to certain things. I'm always up for a bit of wacky surrealism.

Which one is on your Netflix? Cyborg 009 is an old manga series from the 1960s and it's had a TON of anime adaptations. Everything from movies in the 60s to a classic old TV series to an angsty/"gritty" remake/reboot a while back and more recently a trilogy of CGI movies.

I watched the 1st few minutes of it. I didn't like the style of it. I think it'd could give me a headache if I watched it for a bit.

Turned back on Sidonia. I see they have 2seasons now. I'm still on ep6 of 1.

I wouldnt reccomend season 2 of that show

DIdn't end up finishing the show. It became less of a sci fi surivival show, more of a stupid romance triangle bullshit
