Ha Jace is freaking out on Gurren! He loves it! Fixing to start Ep 10. I just wish Netflix had the English dub but he is doing good enuff with the sub. He's 9 but the txt is scrolling really fast.

It's a good dub too. You can definitely find it available in torrents (nyaa or tokyotosho, but probably even kat).

There's still one more episode, apparently. Probably a time-skip epilogue.

In any case, AssClass ending was good big drama. I wish it had been a bit more "assassiny" though... feels like they took the generic laserbeam shounen ending instead of using what they had built up throughout the last two seasons more. Oh well, still pretty good.

---

Concrete Revolutio is over, and it was an amazing finale. Very Malazan-sorta convergence of all the major and minor characters coming together, mostly lined up on "sides" but also having their own reasons to act independently and so on. Really tied up a lot of things and had some spectacular animation, too.

Overall, Concerete Revolutio definitely wasn't a perfect show... there was a lot of times it felt like they were trying to stick too much story, too many themes and too many real-world references into only a 20-minute episode and just plain couldn't fit it all so they had to cut out bits of narrative or have some very awkward conversations/character reactions to make it fit...

...but it was still an extremely ambitious show that had a TON of interesting themes to explore and things to say, and for the most part it pulled it off. I'd say it might even be the second-most "Malazan-esque" anime I know (after One Piece, which obviously has a more Malazan-scale that ConRevo can't hope to match in only 24 episodes).

Well worth checking out, but definitely wait until you can give it 100% of your attention or you'll hate it!

---

My Hero Academia just had its big climax, too, and I suspect its last episode will just be a wind-down one.

The climax was definitely well-presented and entertaining and all... but is anyone else getting tired of worlds that are full of magic physics-defying superpowers but the main character(s)' superpower is just super strength?

If I want to see the main character punch the bad guys, I can see it in sooooo many other shows... I would so much rather see All Might and the main character in Hero Academia die so we can see the characters with actually interesting powers fight for once!

---

Surprisingly, there's really not that much Summer shows I'm interested in, so I'm hoping as the Spring shows end to go back and watch some recent shows that I missed. Re:Zero is on the list for sure, given all the love from it here! I'm thinking Rakugo and Mayoiga will be next.

Re:Zero has been good so far. The premise is a little cliché at times (high school kid gets transported to alternate fantasy reality which acts like an RPG) but the Return by Death mechanic, his reaction to it and the show's general self-awareness and willingness to poke fun at itself make it a goodun for me.

I've finished DanMachi - that was fun, if a little meandering. I get that it's about Bell growing as a person more than anything else but it could have used a little more storyline.

JoJo Diamond is not Break - Much more lighthearted than Stardust Crusaders by a long way. Again, fun and enjoyable enough, but I miss the serious tone of SDC.

First episode of Food Wars... MEAT JUICES. Oh god. And tentacles in the first five minutes. Did R. Scott Bakker start doing anime whilst I wasn't looking?

SAO - This hasn't lived up to the hype at all so far. It's had moments where it's been good, yeah, but overall, up to e.11, it feels very disjointed, the story seems to jump around dates without much rhyme or reason, and the characters are quite flat. I've compared it to Way of Kings so far and that is NEVER a good thing for me to compare something to.

TOUCH WOOOD!

Strength power is the basic of the basics, thats true. The world style has plenty of better more interesting powers to explore.

I really, reallly like the nature of All-might and Midoriya though. Complex powers bring complex plots. The fact Midoriya can't contain the power he has makes it worth paying attention to. The fact All-might can barely keep his up for as long as he does is also super interesting. Its so much more interesting when there's a definite limit to all that power.

The Cliche is really effective when producing excellent opposition. a simple strength power can always be overcome by incredibly complex means, thats how you get the Lex Luthers, the Jokers and the Col. Strikers we all love to hate. I really liked Tomura Shigaki and with a second season confirmed and in production I look forward to more from the other villains seeming to operate in the background.

The limitations on Midoriya and All-Might do make them more interesting compared to the usual 0-to-100 transformation, but the plot still sets them up so that it's never really a big problem. Midoriya will probably never need to fight more than 5 finger-flicks of henchmen and 1 final bad guy needing a full punch, or if there are more enemies the rest of the class will take care of them after he breaks himself. All-Might always has just enough time left to win whatever battle, and then immediately after that he melts.

I will grant that it has lead to a couple neat situations/strategies, like the whirlpool thing, but I wish in that case they would actually devote some focus towards highlighting that creativity, rather than just showing Midoriya going "Oh geez! What will we do! What do we do! We need to fight somehow!" and then jumping straight to the plan's execution, then quickly moving on... while in comparison whenever someone punches something really hard it gets like 5 minutes of special effects and music build-up. Show Midoriya and the others actually talking and coming up with creative ideas, and give them the same emotional impact as the strong-man-punch-villain moments!

Likewise, yeah there *can* be creative and interesting villains that are cool counterpoints to StrongGuyHero. But so far our big bad villains have been... StrongGuyBaddie and NotStrongButDisintegratesYouByTouchingYou... both villains who essentially just get into a fist fight with the punchy hero. It'd be really cool if the next villain is a super-fast ninja with a sniper rifle that Midoriya/All-Might can't even see, let alone get close to... but given how most anime/manga go, I wouldn't count on it...

Of course, this is all the first dozen or so chapters of the manga that we've had animated. Maybe things will take a different turn as we progress, assuming the show keeps going (I know season 2 was confirmed, but supposedly this manga is loooong... who knows if the sales/interest will keep up for 6+ seasons).

Yeah, I'm looking forward to more Arslan, too. The weird thing is that it is apparently only going to be 8 episodes this year, and they're nowhere close to finishing the story of the books (which have been finished for a long time), so I'm not sure what the plan there is, exactly.

I saw the PV of Cheer Boys and it looks like it will be really good quality/presentation... I'm just not sure how much a show about men's university cheerleading squad will be interesting.

I can't decide if Mob Psycho 100 sounds intriguing or the stupidest premise I've ever heard of. I guess both.

Time travel is always pretty hit or miss, but I'll check out Orange on the hope it's a hit.

Also:

Berserk
ReLife
Shokugeki S2

Of course, we all already know that Onara Gorou is going to be the anime of the year: "Onara Gorou follows the everyday life of Gorou, the "most admirable of farts," as he solves problems in ways that only a fart can"

Spoiler
means the author addresses this issue. Midoriya is miles away from handling himself agains any opponent that can take a punch from him. He'll need to start building himself up. It makes for meaningful plot I think and while a one-punch approach was the initial setup I think its Midoriyas vast knowledge of every single pro hero from his fan boy days that starts to shape him as a character which means....

...More of this! I think they'll need to start using their heads. We have similar setups with young justice or teen titans? the grown ups face many 'big' threats forcing the young 'uns to handle this one big threat in particular. I think that we'll get exactly what you want to see in this type of inevitable scenario. We know its all cliche but judging by this last season we do get those unlikely yet complimentary team ups that get more specialized as the story goes along which they have to develop to get more plot going.

Hmmmn it's a highly specific scenario that. I wish we could get crossovers from the OPM world. speed of sound sonic would fit the bill :Rodeo:. I know for a fact theres alot of really well developed villains in BnHA. The Masters' Tomura Shigaki spoke of, for example, might be to him what All-might is to Midoriya.
The after credits scene already introduced season 2's next villain and he doesn't look like the punchy type, only time (or the manga) will tell.

I doubt it, I'd be happy with three decent seasons covering maybe one story arc. This is an Anime I'm more than happy completing in manga format.

So summer season is here

I checked out a few shows already

Berserk season2: unless you are ahuge berserk fan don't do it. The animation is AWFULLL. Its some anime and a lot of CGI and CGI does not do people well. Its great for backgrounds but people? ugh.(please note i almost never mention animation as a point of discussion)

New arslan senki episode is pretty cool. Gets you caught up on everything really quickly.

Other things ima be watching for.

dgrayman hallow: I watched the original so im kinda curious if this goes further into the story.

91days: could be interesting

danganropa 3: could be good, was a fan of 2.

Tales of zestiria: one ep in so far, looks good.

Nejimaki Seirei Senki: Tenkyou no Alderamin, who doesn't like a show about military strattegy? this will fill my military porn cracing im sure.

Tsukiuta. The Animation/Love Live! Sunshine!!:ill watch 1 ep see if its my kinda thing

If the anime of My Hero Academia is following the manga, the next 'villain' is definitely not a punchy one. But I think there's a tournament arc before that that shows off a bunch of fun powers.

Got my Mrs' Netflix account details so I've been watching Fullmetal Alchemist based on numerous recommendations. Solid so far. Also, that's one weird looking doggo.

Re:Zero this week... well, someone I know has been calling this the 'Sufferu Arc' and I start to see why.

Spoiler

Presumably based upon the new intro, Roswaal is going to turn out to be some form of Big Bad. The two new Myth & Roid songs that have come in with this episode are pretty dang good as well.

Berserk Ep 1: This seems to have promise but I'm struggling not to see Guts as Jotaro given that they have the same VA. How long until we get a yare yare?

It's tragic... how could they go so wrong on this?! Poor Berserk, I think this will be its death-knell for its adaptations - I can't see even if the Japanese fans enjoying this one enough to give it even decent sales. The manga keeps falling behind schedule, too, though it'll probably keep going irregularly for a long time.

I binge-watched the entirety of ReLife over the weekend (Crunchyroll released all the episodes at once, Netflix-style). It was a pretty standard high school comedy-drama, but the jokes were funny and the melodrama worked out, too. Don't be fooled by the synopsis, though, the whole "adult main character goes back to high school" doesn't really make it any different than any other high school comedy-drama - it's used as a setup for a couple jokes and some drama but don't expect the MC to actually act all that differently than a high schooler or be any smarter.

Anyone else watch the Kabaneri finale? Soooo ridiculous, but I think given how they set up the crazy finale during the season they actually had a pretty good ending for it all. The only thing that I think could have been a lot better/clearer is...
Spoiler

Of course, the whole thing overall doesn't make much sense and everyone is going to starve to death now anyways, but whatever if the director's not thinking about those things I won't either. Fun times!

I also saw the Sakamoto finale, which was perfectly ridiculous and also a bit moving. There's a very pervasive fan theory that

drek, the kabaneri finale was ridiculous? the entire show was off it rocker. I quickly turned my brain off in that show.

Also were getting a joker game OVA this summer which im hyped for! That show really stood out to me in several ways.

The stories were always gripping and kept you intrigued. Not only that but the resolution of a lot of issue was very spy like (read: not james bond). Even the characters it was difficult keeping track of who was who which was a purposeful touch on the part of the direction as spies are supposed to blend in and not attract attention.

dgrayman ep1: they changed studios which opfc means chaging the animation, colours and cast....

I can't dig it. Espcially since dgray was supposed to have a darker feel to it, these ligther colours aren't doing it.

DanMachi caused a disturbing thing with my Rocket League 2v2 team. My partner's surname is Bell, so he became Bell-kun. Which makes me Kami-sama. Jiggle jiggle. I'll be watching that when it's available, though. And yeah, RE0 is my go-to on a Sunday night. 18:35 UK time!
