Yes, I was being silly/facetious. The One Piece Rap is like Database (from Log Horizon)... made with all the best of intentions, I'm sure, but at best you could say it is so-bad-it's-good.

Re: ASSASSINATION CLASSROOM anime...(while reading the manga [on Vol. 3 now] I was curious what the voices would sound like) so, why is the English dub for Koro Sensei SO far off character? I mean the guy sounds completely normal and not at all like how Koro Sensei should sound. The Japanese voice actor for Koro Sensei blows him completely out of the water...he sounds EXACTLY like what I expected him to sound like. Looks like I won't bother with the dub version when I watch it, the sub will be that much better just for that voice alone.

I haven't seen the dub at all, but I guess I'm not surprised. Whoever the North American license-holder/distributor/publisher is, they probably didn't think it was worth putting much money into dubbing a show about "kids with guns assassinating their octopus-monster teacher" ... probably too oddball for them to think they can market it successfully here.

Awww, Licenseless Rider is awesome and heartwarming! Him and OPM being friends is great, they clearly have very similar attitudes despite the difference in power.

In other news, Utawarerumono has finally frustrated me enough to compel me to write about it...

So if you aren't familiar with it there was a series called Utawarerumono back in 2006 or so that was based off of one of those half-VN-half-battle-RPG games. That series was alright - it was a slow build and underdeveloped many of its characters but it had some pretty cool parts throughout its run, too. Now airing is Utawarerumono: The False Faces, a new show based on the second game but which is not a direct sequel: it seems to be set many years later, in a whole new country, with whole new protagonists, though there are references and cameos to places/characters from the first series.

The first few episodes of The False Faces were really, really, REALLY good - so good I made a huge post expounding about it right before watching the fourth episode... then I deleted that post because the 4th episode made a huge tone shift, and it has more or less stayed shifted since (I'm now finished up to episode 9).

The show starts with introducing the main protagonist - Haku - an amnesiac who wakes up in the mountains (I guess the VN wanted him to be a blank slate for the player) but he's soon rescued by catgirl Kuon. Over the course of the first few episodes the pair of them travel through the mountains, stay at a village and meet some other characters (all of whom are cat-people, by the way, Haku is the only human, but it's not a big deal (yet?)) and there's a ton of interesting world-building - cool monsters revealed, an aristocratic thaumaturge sort of guy, banditry, giant bird mounts - and character development - Haku is this sort of lazy engineer who doesn't want to do any work but when forced to he works smart, Kuon is the more hard-working and honest type but with a mischievous streak - going on. I wasn't even annoyed when they had a bit of ecchi - it was actually set up in quite mature and believable circumstances and didn't fall under any of the usual stupid tropes. There was lots of great comedic bits, too.

Then the characters reach the country's capital and everything grinds to a horrible halt. Many of the interesting side characters disappear, there's practically no world-building even when interesting ideas are hinted at, and each episode has just become a pretty boring slice-of-life mundane-problem-of-the-week format. The one mature nude scene from the first few episodes becomes a token bath scene every single week, now including all your favourite over-used stupid ecchi tropes. The characters have suddenly become a lot less mature and basically seem like high school SoL/harem characters instead of adults like they were before.

And... the... plot... is... going... nowhere...

I haven't looked up who the director (or perhaps the series composition writer - thanks Shirobako!) is yet but their idea of progressing the plot seems to be do nothing all episode and then put in a totally unrelated "hype up" scene after the ED that is completely out of context.

All that disappointment is exacerbated by the fact that Utawarerumono: The False Faces is animated beautifully, too. What a waste

I'm going to keep watching as long as I can stand it, but with the way things have been going and look like they'll keep going, I would not recommend this one, folks.

that sounds awful, I do pity you.

I started watching OPM, although im only 3 episodes in I really enjoy it thus far. Loved how in one scene a giant dude kills his own brother by accident by hitting the wrong shoulder.

So i've been watching the latest episode of owari no seraph

Finished the Netflix show---> Seven Deadly Sins.

Not too bad for using like every single major Anime Trope. I mean I did finish right?

from the plot summary seems like a good show if a tad bit cliched. How was it?

Watched the first episode the other week. Looks like cliched garbage tbh. Could have potential in the premise but the prevalence of fanservice and silly shounen dialogue kinda put me off regardless.
No idea how it goes from there though.

Haha, I appreciate the love. XD

I've mainly been away because work has been a living nightmare, and I just haven't watched that much anime. even the seven deadly sins thing I watched on Luci and Shiaras' netflix when I was on holiday. XD

Well, hopefully a new job is coming through soon and I can get back to doing fun stuff that isn't just filling the few hours I have between sleeping and working. XD

Hey, it's a Silencer! Good to know you're still alive! ;)

Is there a list somewhere of all the anime that are on Netflix? I guess in NZ it would be different anyways, ya? Last time I was somewhere that had Netflix I remember browsing through and thinking most there didn't look like there was a lot of great shows on there, just lots of medium/mediocre (and all the good ones I'd already seen). Not sure if that is the best way to get excitedly back into the hobby...

But how are you filling those hours, few though they may be, now? Surely you could fit just one little 20-minute One Punch Man episode a week in there... ;)

That was a suuuper interesting link LP. Salute.

One is officially my hero now. I'm glad to learn Madhouse was indeed behind the animation!

JC Staff announced a second season of Shokugeki no Souma is in production. No confirmed airing date yet, but it sounds like they're aiming for either summer or fall 2016.

So now my list of sequels I'm really looking forward to next year is up to NINE: Assassination Class 2, Shokugeki 2, Hibike!Euphonium 2, Attack on Titan 2, Shirayuki part 2, the last cour of Durarara x2, Steins;gate Beta, Sinbad AND Arslan Senki 2...

Woooo Twenty-Sequel-Teen! Save all the new shows for 2017, we don't need them!

Short answer: yes.

Long answer:

First of all, the source material is LNs, not manga. There is a Durarara manga, too, but I think it only ever adapted the first 3 volumes of the LNs, so we passed it as soon as season 2 started.

Durarara (the LNs) has 13 volumes. But somewhere around volume 7 the author decided that when he was finished the main series he wanted to start a sequel series - called Durarara SH - set a year or two after the main series ends.

The first season of the anime, Durarara (TV), by Brain's Base, covered the first 3 volumes of Durarara.

The second season, "Durarara x2" is split into 3 cours, each with a break of 1 cour in-between, made by Studio Shuka, covers the remaining volumes of Durarara, and is not planned to go into Durarara SH.

Durarara x2 Shou - Volumes 4-6
Durarara x2 Ten - Volumes 7-10
Durarara x2 Ketsu (airing next January) - Volumes 11-13

There's at least 3 volumes of Durarara SH so far. So someday, we could see an anime adaptation of that, too. Therefore, this upcoming cour (Durarara x2 Ketsu) may not be the last Durarara anime ever, but it IS the last cour of the main series and should hit the same degree of closure as the LNs did at the end of the main series.

If you want to know (vaguely - no specific plot points) how much closure you're in for at the end of Ketsu, open this spoiler box:

Watched the latest Owari no Seraph episode. I for one can't wait for the english dub of this latest episode. If the writing staff is any good, the homosexual undertones will make for hilarious dialogue
