Hai to Gensou no Grimgar
iving, isn't easy.
When Haruhito awakens, he's in the dark.
He doesn't know where he is, why is he here, and where he came from.
Around him there are several men and women who have the same circumstances.
Together, they advance forward away from the darkness, and a world they've never seen before called "Grimgar" spreads out before them.
Memories, money, special powers — This is the reality we who have none of those things have obtained.

Yeah, I have heard of its bananapants-crazy reputation and am prepared to just blaze through it embracing the insanity.

But I actually ended up starting Shirobako over the weekend (and its soooo good!) so Valvrave may have to wait until it is done. Valvrave doesn't seem like the kind of show I want to be stopping every 2 episodes to watch a couple episodes of something else!

Schwarzesmarken sounds so campy "look-how-gritty-and-dark-we-are" though, naming everything german things, numbering the unit 666, finding wordy acronyms for everything ("we must assault the BETA!"). We'll see... I've mostly liked Liden Studio's stuff so far, but a lot of that is from the source material itself as their actual animation and directing quality are only so-so.

I wouldn't get any hopes up for Grimgar. It's yet another people-trapped-in-a-MMORPG LN adaptation. Even if it does something different and superior to the HS/SAO/LH/IIWTPUGIAD/OL predecessors, it will probably still just be a 13-episode advertisement for the LN and not really have any pay-off plot-wise.

Wow, I did not know that Schwarzesmarken is a prequel to Muv Luv... that's super weird. And not a good sign for it being particularly good, IMO.

(and I'm still laughing at how silly them calling alien invaders "BETA" which stands for "Beings the Extra-Terrestrial origin which are the Adversary of thehuman race". Somebody really, really felt the need to use that acronym for some reason)

Apparently it's part of the new "MMO without saying its an MMO" trend. It'll be like IIWTPUGIAD where the characters' world will be real to them, but that world will be structured around being classic fantasy archetypes, being rewarded for repetitively fighting monsters, the characters will "level up" their skills to unlock new powers, etc. In Grimgar's case, it seems the characters are also all amnesiacs, or something like that, so I guess that leaves open the door for the possibility that they are real people who were transported into an MMO and don't even know/remember it.

Hasn't been much detail revealed yet, but it's a Sunrise studio anime-original so it should be off-the-walls bonkers.

silly name aside, the VN i read I really enjoyed and was really into it. The anime that got me into it though, muv-luv total eclipse has to be the most bi-polar show i've ever watched.

also what the hell does

They never overtly said it was an MMO, but the characters were "adventurers" in a fantasy world where as a sort of day job they went into a multi-tiered dungeon full of respawning monsters that conveniently leave behind gold and miscellaneous items when they die, and on certain floors there are rooms with a particularly powerful "boss" monster to fight. The adventurers improve their "stats" and unlock new abilities by fighting these monsters.

I've been watching Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma and more recently working through Yowamushi Pedal.

Enjoyed/enjoying both! Heh, the food battles/cook-offs were fun in Food Wars. Heh, reminded me of typical fighting animes I usually watch but with food

I'm into cycling so I'm enjoying Y.Pedal as well. Fun races/battles and seeing how they pull out seeming underdog victories, etc. :p

Magic Cabbage!!! Food Wars is great!

I've never heard of Yowamushi Pedal before. It's a show about bicycle races? Is it serious? I mean, I guess any sport can make a sport anime if they made an epic volleyball anime, but bicycle races doesn't sound all that thrilling on its own.

Ya, it's a high school racing club, and they're competing in the big inter-highschool race. hehe, it's a cute little story about a nerdy freshman who is just looking to join the anime club and has no friends, and another cyclist notices him riding a granny bike up a steep hill, blah blah blah, he eventually joins the cycle club and makes friends, and it's all about him learning the in and outs of riding and the team's progress as a whole (as well as back story on the team's history/rivals).

I like it a lot. =D

Looking forward to finishing it, but I was away for a week and need to clean out my DVR first

Cool, I'll add it to the list. Does it have a scene where the team's coach brings in foreign specialist Rance Almstlong to talk to the kids about doping and hiding it?

Haha, haven't come to that scene yet 8P I'm sure it would be one of the rival team's coaches though!

I'm loving it!

I've started watching Ghost in the Shell SAC. Five episodes in it's an acceptable anime so far, although I can't figure out the panty-tank top- coat outfit for the life of me. In what universe does that even remotely make sense...

The format of the anime reminds me of old Supernatural "monster of the week" episodes, if it continues this way it's going to get boring soon though.

you should have already stumbled onto the beginings of the laughing man arc. First season is very episodic, second season is the opposite

Finished Shirobako. Absolutely amazing. Does a perfect job of blending its own story with educating the audience. I loved the enhanced-reality parts and how the themes of Exodus/Aerial Girls Squad reflected Miyamori's (and other characters') own struggles.

Very impressive how much they managed to cram in there, what with the celebrity cameos and miscellaneous little showcases like the sound effects studio. The story itself was very satisfactorily resolved so it's definitely a complete package as-is, but I would be totally okay with another season or some spin-offs that showcase other parts of the development process. EG, they could time-skip to Miyamori being a producer and show more of the sales and production committee side of things, or use a new main character to show more of the sound, colouring and filming elements.
