Didn't realise that Netflix has anime. My fiancee has an account and so I'll be sitting down with GITS and AoT in the near future.

good man

So another season of anime comes to end. Have to say I was pleased with this cour.

Owari no seraph
Spoiler

Assasination classroom, was just perfect the way this season ended (idk if theres a s2, i'd be surprised if there wasn't) and was a good series through and through

FSN>went downhill after the end of part 1. What was it that shirou said, "just cause you're correct doesn't mean you're right? alongside with "people die when they are killed". I swear he could give amagai shuu a run for his money in terms of worst protagonist.

Arslan senki: its entertaining, and i love shows featuring military strategists as main or supporting characters

sidonia no kishi: well now, its finally gotten interesting again. Glad i skipped a few episodes that centered around the boring as hell love triangle.

Me too! It's been a pretty good season, though moreso because there were a lot of decent-to-good shows this season, but few were genuinely great (I would only but Shokugeki no Souma and Assassination Classroom {and that one I'm being lenient on because it is clearly more of a kids-targeted show} in there).

The season's not actually over yet, though. Plastic Memories, Sound!Euphonium, Stay Night, Punchline and most of the others will have their last episode this weekend. Kekkai Sensen won't finish for another two weeks.

They've already announced a season 2 to air sometime in 2016.

watched the latest ep of shokugeki honestly the quality of the episodes has been constant throughout, which i like theres no amazingly OTT episodes but theres no drab episodes either just decent ones. which is great
Spoiler

but yeah 7-8/10 episode this week

started watching assassin classroom today the animation is different can't shake of the feeling it would be a cooler anime if it didnt look so childish but then again to me thats whats kinda drew me in at , the bonkers silly nature of it and the animation emphasises it I'm on episode 8 and after a really quick pace at the start its starting to slow a little hopefully things pick up again soon.
also keeping up to date with kuroko no basket some good stuff there its going to end in a few episodes though.
aaaand arslan senki and owari no seraph are next on my list after assassin classroom

It definitely is a show aimed more at kids, but as you say I think that is part of its charm. It's kind of like a modern Dragonball (not Z) or Naruto, and I think making it more teen/adult would lose some of what makes it pleasantly different from other 'standard' shounen coming out at the same time.

It should pick up a bit soon, though don't expect the show to accelerate faster than how it started. The first 10 or so episodes have to cover a lot of world-building - they reveal a lot of Koro-sensei's capabilities and weaknesses, introduce the teachers and main-most students, explain several facets of what the E class and its students are (and how they're used by the rest of the school), introduce some of the antagonists, and showcase what equipment and wits the students have at their disposal. It's a lot to setup, and some of the episodes in the first cour aren't great as a result. But once all of that groundwork is established, the show gets to run wild with it - still continuing to add new ideas and characters or give minor characters some focus, but at a pace which better fits the story of that episode. And plus, it's really nice having that world-building and multiple antagonists setup ahead of time, compared to other shows where characters are always learning more powerful techniques that were never mentioned before so they can defeat an even more powerful antagonist than the last guy who was also never mentioned until the latest arc.

----

In other news, this was a beautiful scene (from Sound!Euphonium, and not a spoiler) that I am guessing was really difficult/time-consuming to animate! The shifting angles is flawless and the blurring of the backgrounds to match the depth of scenes is something they've been doing a lot in this show and it really gives things an amazingly natural eye-like perspective. Really cool.

NAGISA IS SCAAARY LIKE KARMA SCARY BUT WORSE CAUSE YOU DONT SEE IT COMING.

<div>finished assassin classroom, I'm fairly satisfied that was a solid anime kinda want to watch one similar now instead of moving onto heavier stuff anyone got any recommendations?</div>

Yeah, Death Note is pretty great. It can be a bit hammy at times, but it runs with it so well that it actually ends up being better for it (and usually is pretty dark).

Echoing Balrog and Silencer, yes it is very good, definitely worth watching! If possible, try to avoid any spoilers or even hints of spoilers for it until you are finished.

Do NOT read this (but Silencer+BL do read this)

More season+series finales this week:

Plastic Memories - The ending was pretty alright, but still didn't live up to its surprisingly moving first episode. Good on them for ending it the way they did, though. Looking at the overall series, it really feels like this show should only have been 4 episodes:

Spoiler

I won't say all the middle episodes were *entirely* unnecessary, as it did build up the supporting cast and character emotions/interactions more, but at the end of the day none of the world-building, side-plots or secondary characters had much of any importance and I think cutting all that fluff out in order to have a more focused narrative that doesn't drag would have been worth it. They should try and cut this up into a movie!

Yamada and the 7 Witches - I let this one drop after the first couple weeks but caught back up and finished it this weekend. It's a high school romance with magic show ('cause there hasn't been an anime about *that* before! :p ). It had some really good moments and overall I liked it, but it definitely suffers from being too rushed as they try and squeeze it into one cour - some of the character motivations/backstories are noticeably truncated from what are presumably much more detailed character building in the source material, and some of the mechanisms for moving the plot forward are awkwardly shoehorned in ("Oh darn, this notebook only lists 2 of the 7 things and we'll have to find a second notebook with the rest of the list"). Surprisingly little cringy ecchi from a show where the characters are kissing each other and changing bodies all the time, too - the whole thing was pretty tasteful overall. As for the finale, not really anything too surprising but it was a good ending. In particular, I liked that
Spoiler

Mikagura School Suite - Was pretty average all the way through, and the last episode didn't stray much from that. Nothing really stands out about this show, but it was fun in its own little way and the constant manic cheerfulness even gets a little bit contagious. I like that the overall theme/message of the show was basically just 'having fun with your friends is fun', I'm down with that (now if only my friends and I could shoot lasers and had telescope cannons we could *really* embrace that theme).

Gunslinger Stratos - It's sooooooooooooooo bad. Just when you think it can't get any worse, the last episodes go even deeper. This show is like the trainwreck of anime, IMO, it starts out seemingly going somewhere, and then you get 12 episodes of unrelentingly stupid plot twists, hilarious character designs and a constant barrage of new ideas being thrown in that have at most 1 bit of immediate relevance and are then forgotten about. AND YOU CAN'T STOP WATCHING THE DISASTER UNFOLD!

Still got Hibike!Euphonium and Kekkai Sensen finales to go, then we're done for the season!

--- --- ---

In other news, I'm done Clannad now. Silencer et al, I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on the finale (and the show as a whole). Some misc thoughts from me:

I'll bump it up to be my next on-the-go bizarre-daily-school-life show, just for you Dolmen, but I need to finish Cromartie before I start it (only one BDSL at a time!).
