Yup, it's a combination of the better writing in the Phantom Bullet arc and the people behind the adaptation actually stepping up their game.

Initial reports suggested closure, but now I'm hearing that they may only be halting production for the time being. Still sucks regardless, but I'm holding out hope that they're not gone for good. Princess Mononoke was the first anime film I saw and it's still my favorite.

Me too! That ominous bit of a confrontation at the end of episode 5 was great. Seriously, though, you'd think Kirito would know better in regards to handling his "reveal" to Sinon, given that his usual group of friends are 4 girls (does he still hang out with Klein and the bartender guy, too? They didn't appear at all in the first few episodes). Silly Kirito!

Not sure how I feel about not-female GGO-Kirito. I thought from the opening sequence that he really would get re-rolled as a girl avatar, possibly on purpose to avoid being recognized, but obviously that's not the case. He really looks too feminine to be just a guy with long hair, but on the other hand his voice is obviously a guy anyways. They've pretty much used up the jokes from it already, and I'm sure (read: I really hope) they won't beat that joke to death all season, so in the end what was really the point of it?

Thats really sad news. Can't understand why the latest movie did so badly? To be honest this is the first I'm hearing about it. Had japan gotten over Ghibli productions? Or was it just a badly reviewed film?

My sister in Japan thinks this is all a massive overreaction and this is just a reorganisation, the Japanese media is apparently not making a big deal about it at all, and she's pretty sure there would be more reaction if it was closing for good. I expect we'll see a cutback in output, but since they still make money as far as I know, I doubt this is a permanent thing.

Agreed (this is epi 6 we're talking about btw), I've said before that a big part of what I like about SAO is that it isn't afraid to go deep with emotional crises, as we saw here.

I kinda liked that it was just Nine and Twelve vs the regular police force, where Nine and Twelve's motivations for the bombings were completely different to what the police were thinking. Adding in Five all of a sudden makes this a bit *too* much like Death Note, imho. Suddenly it's super-extraordinary-bad-guys vs super-extraordinary-good-guys and it's almost not as interesting because of it.
I would have been happier if they'd kept things on the slow burn, long-game type of thing and made it a bit more political (i.e. with Shibazaki having to investigate the police force and such), rather than going the current route which makes it a bit less...real? I guess. Five's character so far is just so...caricatured...compared to everyone else who has depth and are relatively normal (Twelve notwithstanding, but even he's relatively layered beneath the initial impressions) to some extent in terms of personality. I mean...could they have made her seem more evil if they'd had her eating grapes and licking her fingers while all the stuff that went on in this episode happened?

I'm sure it's still going to be a good show, and Five might not even be that important to the plot overall/as ridiculously silly as she appears to be (heck, even Nine's reaction to being hacked/figuring out it was Five was a bit ham-handed, imo) but it's definitely made me a bit less enthusiastic about the whole show until they prove me wrong in the next episode...hopefully.

Loved that episode. Heck, I'd call it perfect pacing. That honestly could not have been done better. I'm practically squeeing with joy over here. Love SAO. XD
