finished season 1 of MAGI, now watching season 2 MAGI: THE KINGDOM OF MAGIC.. this together with KUROKO NO BASKET 2 are the 2 shows i'm now currently watching.
also since i want more of MAGI, and want to know more of what happens, i have been reading its manga.. though there's only slight difference with the anime to its manga source.

i will watch BLACK LAGOON: ROBERTA'S TRAIL maybe a bit later, since i have no idea what to watch in the days of my waiting for new eps of Magi and KnB..
It's not who I am underneath.. but what i do that defines me - Batman, Batman Begins; 'Without our deaths, sir, there would be no crime. Thus, no punishment to match,' 'Mortal Sword - '
'We are done, my friend. Now, in this manner, we choose the meaning of our deaths' - Mortal Sword Brukhalian to Veteran Nilbanas, siege of Capustan
'Ippen shinde miru (want to try dying this once) ?' - Jigoku Shoujo (Hell Girl)

Chiming in to let you folk know about COPELLION.

Almost as ridiculous as it sounded, and does a LOT of the things I find wrong with standard fare anime. Though it should be noted that the jeep they use is electric and used on purpose because they can't use classic cars.

The three leads are from an JSDF school, and are genetically engineered humans (from birth) who are crafted to withstand the harsh post-irradiated environment of Tokyo (Kyoto is now home base for the majority of Japan, and the location of the school they attend). They are sent into irradiated Old City (Tokyo) on missions to find people I guess? (they find one dude in a hazmat suit)...but they are inexplicably all wearing school girl outfits (and there is a lot of wind in Old City...no seriously, I'm not joking). Like okay, I get it, they are in school and thus might wear uniforms AT that school...but in the field...why the hell aren't they wearing something more tactical and covering and agile?! The lead girl actually jumps from a bridge and lands perfectly fine wearing knee-high socks and mary-janes. REALLY?!

Now, there is a sect of folk who might argue things like: Well, having them in the outfits is just a visual art tool to make the ghost town Tokyo stand out incongruously with what appear to be happy, school girls going for a stroll. But yeah, I'm not sure that's enough. They DO get points though for no panty shots. This type of anime with blowing skirts would normally feature those...and COPPELION doesn't fall into that "impress the pervy otaku" trap...but yeah. They also carry sling bags and walk the whole time...like are you kidding me? They don't get tactical clothes AND they can't carry double strapped daypacks...but are walking all day? Like for real, one of the girls is going to have her arm severed from the groove in her shoulder.

Urg.

Beyond that, nothing that happens in the pilot is compelling. Tokyo is irradiated by a Nuclear power plant meltdown (note this series was meant to come out back right before the actual nuclear plant accident and they held off for moralistic reasons). Basically people are living on the north island now and they send these girls in...for reasons I can't tell you cause they don't explain other than "They go to find survivors and there is some kind of beacons alerting Kyoto to them".

I'm sorry, but if your pilot isn't interesting, and you are asking me to get involved then you KIND of need to tell me something more.

There is also an art feature...flickering lighting and some shots the girls are thickly outlined in black so much so they stand out a LOT from the backdrop. Considering the company who made this I'm sure those two things, and their inherent "wrongness" feeling are on purpose...but do I care enough to keep watching?

Urg. I'm giving this two more eps to impress me.

2nd episode of COPPELION down...and...meh.

They explain the title (and the teams name) which comes from a french play about a live doll. The fact that the girls feel like dolls (no parents, genetically engineered) comes more to light in Ep 2. The glut of the episode concerns establishing that the "survivors" in Tokyo that the girls are meant to rescue are for the most part prison escapees from 20 years previously who escaped during the chaos of the nuclear letdown but stayed in irradiated Tokyo so they wouldn't be freshly arrested and detained in Kyoto.

And...meh.

The only cool feature that I like so far is that one of the three girls (the whiniest) Aoi...speaks in the 3rd person entirely...which is at least interesting.

Otherwise I'm not getting the point of it all.

Oh and lastly the dramatics are WAY overblown. All three girls react to things with either copious streams of tears and upset or cold drive. It's like watching someone come down from being on uppers. Bizarre, and as such emotional beats in the script aren't earned, they are forced upon the viewer as if the production team was like "Care, damn you! Care HARD about these people and their problems!"...and I just can't

I MAY watch ep 3....but I also may not...my time has become far more valuable to waste on mediocre anime.

I'm watching the Space Battleship Yamato 2199 show. It's kind of high minded for an anime, but the writing/directorial staff doesn't understand or want to put on particularly plausible space combat or group dynamics. Thus it becomes middle of the road. It's very much a more somber version of the '60s Star Trek, with less humor, very few planet excursions, lots of space battles and plenty of not-actually-buried Japanese nationalism/Euro-loving.

That being said, I'm on Episode 21 now and I will say that this anime does a great job of making both the "good" and "bad" guys have a full spectrum of characters and layers to them. Episode 20 has a very tense space battle, which has a surprising amount of layers, but falls apart once you look at it with any level of critical thinking, which is much better than the "pfft, whatever" of the many space battles beforehand.

The best drinking game to play is whenever they mention "port" or "Kodai", you drink. The ship always gets dinged on the port side first and Kodai is the Chris Pine Captain Kirk to the Captain/Admiral Pike of the actual captain.

Watched Ep 3 of COPPELION.

I can see WHY a lot of people seem to really like this, but I can't help but feel that this specific type of anime has been done far better. I'm not intrigued enough each ep to be really all that compelled to continue on. This coupled with an over-reliance on the main character (Ibara) while leaving the other two girls to languish as worshippers-of-her/pointless cardboard cutouts.

And the score. Ugh! Maybe I've been spoiled by AoT's phenomenal soundtrack...but the score in this show is awful.

The worst thing about all this is that buried somewhere in there is actually a GOOD show. They just have no idea how to construct it from ep to ep, they are too interested in creating anf adding new characters than they are with developing existing ones...and that includes the three leads.

And yeah, everyone in Tokyo is from that prison. Everyone. So how am I meant to care about them saving old criminals?

Done and done. I've watched this ridiculous show for three eps...so you guys don't have to. ^_^

Watch something good instead.

Big Eva discussion going on over at io9.

http://io9.com/why-t...ne-t-1468195502

where Rob Bricken claims that the TV ending is better than the END OF EVA ending...and the rest of us call him nutters.

Also he doesn't seem to have a clue that REBUILD is a sequel to the original:

Spoilerified image comparison that mostly proves it IS indeed a sequel and not a reboot.

Now I want more anime, though. Any recommendations for good adventure type animes like that?

For the movies, it's probably best if you torrent them or buy on DVD. They're long.

Log Horizon has been pretty good so far. The longer they avoid the question as to why they're stuck in the game, the better. I just hope it doesn't go the way of SoA.

Started watching kill la kill for the art style, sort of like Gurren Lagaan (sp?). I soon got tired of the fan service nonsense and simple story (though, to be fair, I've only seen the first few episodes).

stick with KLK until ep 5. I thought it was stupid at first, but i ended up being pleasently surprised (main villain is basically Nietzsche's Overman) As for fanservice, i've learn to ignore it. I am enjoying the seires but i may simply be because i love Nietzsche and this series has Nietzsche written all over it.

As for Log Horizon, im enjoying how our protagonist's main strenght is his brains. I find there simply aren't enough good examples of this. In most action series the protagonist's main attribute is either brawn or dumb luck.

I re-watched the One Piece Z movie. If you're not an One Piece fan, it's an okay movie. If you're all caught up on One Piece (up until the release), it's a brilliant, although not perfect movie.

Z may be the best charismatic bad guy in a long time and how Oda/movie's writers structure the story around how everyone in the movie is affected by Z's futile dream in different ways is brilliant - particularly for an animated movie. Plus the song. That's a song worthy of Erikson - might be better than his poems too.

Eh, first episode of Kill la Kill was interesting enough. The main character's outfit, tho'...XD

Strike the Blood is actually pretty good so far. I'm a few episodes in and aside from the typical romance angle it's been moderately intriguing and well presented in terms of exposition, action, and plot development getting just enough of each to keep them balanced.

Am not up to speed with Kyoukai no Kanata currently, as last month was a work-filled nightmare of sorts, and have been distracted by Assassin's Creed IV and a couple of other anime, plus rewatching The Last Airbender. Still, as at episode 3 or 4 where I left it, it was doing pretty well.

I tried KILL LA KILL....and hated the animation style...I found the story to be servicable, but nothing special.

I watched the first two episodes of this. Seems to be another one of those shows where for no reason whatsoever they've decided the female characters all need to wear schoolgirl outifts all the time for no reason whatsoever, and in fact the entire plot of the first episode could have been avoided if lance girl was wearing pants. Or even just culottes, which would make perfect sense given how much she likes doing triple backflips.

So that was kind of annoying. Getting major twilight vibes from it, too, so I'm not interested in watching the rest of this show regularly. The quality of the art is good, so I might put on an episode here and there when I'm multitasking.

Lastly, "Lion King Organization" is the stupidest thing I've heard all week.
