I kinda cheated here....I think ASoS is barely better than ACoK, but I voted ACoK just because I knew ASoS would be getting enough votes. I think they're both quite a bit better than AGoT, which is a lot better than AFfC.

Got to go with Storm. We'll see if ADwD or the last two books can usurp it, but after how horribly dull A Feast for SNORES was, I'm not holding my breath... and I'm not really planning on touching the series again until it's finished.

Storm was amazing. So many great scenes, I really hope HBO get that far!

I will give ACOK props though for holding up a lot better on re-read. Initially I didn't like it so much.

Yeah, I think ASOS is kind of the carte blanche winner here. I'd say that likely 90% of people like it best because it is badassery from page 1 to page a million...
...that said, ACOK is also QUITE amazing as the set-up to the events in ASOS so it qualifies too.
While AFFC isn't horrible or anything, the general consensus is that it's the boring clean-up after the party kind of book. I liked it, but I certainly put it at the bottom of the list. That said, I may differ my opinion after a re-read (when I get to it on my Kindle) before ADWD comes out.

After all the hype over ASoS, I didn't think it was THAT much better than ACoK.

That's probably what you'd call hype aversion. I for one, without knowing whatsoever the hype ASoS had, thought it to be way better than ACoK(not that ACoK is a bad book,mind you.)

Indeed, book 3 is the payoff to the buildup of a huge chunk of storylines that had been going since book 1. I mean the fact that Joffrey finally gets iced like the little bitch that he is in ASOS when I waited all of book 2 for someone to do him in is a good example.

That ^ and the Red Wedding are hard to beat.
As i see it, STORM is where GRRM realy really hit his stride, and many, many readers, came to the series for the first time on the strength of the word of mouth for Storm. Game and Clash are both good books, but Storm is where GRRM raises the bar.
It's also why Feast is somewhat disappointing.
