Malazan Empire: The gate beneath the shadow temple - Malazan Empire

During my re-read of DHG, I've noticed in the section where Icarium and Mappo find the real gate for the shapeshifters, that there are paintings on the wall of a forset and four-legged beasts, and closer to the gate, Icarium and Mappo see another painting, we dont know what they see but they talk about some kind ressemblance, and cant seem to find a connection between the painting and the shapeshifters.I think it has something to do with the Hounds of Shadow, because Mappo and Icarium also feel an elder warren, close to Kurald Galain, that was proboally Kurald Emurlhan.So, what the Hounds got to do with the Path of Hands?
