I see the New Yorker is attempting 'digital content for a subscription fee' again.

Clearly a brilliant move, because that worked out SO well for them last time...

Yeah, it's really rather a dopey move.

It doesn't work for Variety mag either. What they don't seem to get is that if I truly want to read an article that is disallowed as web content, I can normally find it elsewhere for free in minutes...or if I REALLY want to read their article specifically (like in this case) I can stand in the Indigo or Chapters book store or at the local news stand and do so...for free...

pinheads.

Apparently in the full article GRRM slams LOST. Damon Lindelof responds.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

Yep. Plus the mistaken notion that any text commentary publication is offering something of such novelty value that we cannot get thirty other versions of the same thing for free elsewhere on the internuts.

Take the obvious example - anyone familiar with the SIF series if well aware of the delay and easily knows where to go to whine about it. Anyone not familiar with the series isn't going to care.

I pay for the New Yorker's digital edition. It's a heap of hunky shit, but at least I'm supporting something I usually like a lot. National Geographic too (but physical copies, as I collect them).

And I'm so glad to hear Martin shares my opinion of and disappointment with Lost.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

There is a decent interview with the author of the piece that recaps much of the article. It's free too.

Haha, I totally do this too. I thought I was the only young person who still collected them (a hobby I inherited from my Dad...which was where I got all my older collection from). Nice!
