If the answer to this question will give spoilers or hints for later books, please don't answer it, but otherwise, I'm curious.
Could Paran have killed Lorn?
Assuming he used Chance and she had her otataral sword, would the fact that Chance was being used by Oponn make it totally useless? Would it have just eliminated any good or bad luck he might otherwise have had (ie made Chance simply a sharp bit of metal, but still useful as a sword) or would he not have been able to get near her with it?
Are gods/ascendants even affected by otataral? (Should I be asking this question?!!)
Anyway, I'm curious, but not so curious that I want the answer to affect my enjoyment of future books.

depends on which generation of gods i suppose. any gods whose power is based on the k'rul system of paths is subject to negation by otataral, while elder forms of magic available to elder gods and their worshippers are not. oponn are a trickier case though, as their power is unaligned and aspected to chance. later in the series we find out some info that seems to suggest they can call on elder power, but that is in no way certain. they're in the deck of dragons, which is tied to k'ruls warrens, so otataral may in fact effect them.
basically, tl;dr=idk
edit: i hope that oblique reference to the later development of oponn isn't over the line.

There's a fine line between genius and insanity. I have erased this line.
