Kanese? Can't remember the scene, but sounds like Captain Skanarow, his lover.

I don't think so, but you might be right. They referred to the Kanese as huge or hulking or something. Maybe it was her,lol.

He does have a given name, but I forget it. Two squads go to help Tavore, but I don't remember if she names every single one of them in her speech (I doubt it) or we just get their names from the squad leaders as they organize the mission.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

The Kanese man is called Hare Ravage and is the squad's heavy. The Napan was called Sample and was just a regular.
Avoid being seen as racist by saying, "I'm not a racist, but ..." prior to making a racist comment.

thats right. and hare ravage is the one who penned that poem adjunct. that was a great aha! moment when i reread the book.
