Ok, I long ago got bogged down halfway through DoD and put it down. That was a year ago. Now my copy of tcg is coming, and I need to finish DoD. I picked it up and am having trouble remembering what is gong on and who is doing what.

So, if anyone is bored and wants to give me a rundown of the first 493 pages, that would be sweet.

Oh, hello to anyone who doesn't know me from the inn. I don't go to the book forums much anymore.

I'll give it a go, having just read it. Forgive me misspellings and such, I'm doing it quick.

Yan Tovis and Yedan Derryg, Twilight and the Watch for the Shake in the north-west of the Lether continent, decide the Shore (they pray to) is dying. In a desperate move, Twilight takes her people and thousands of refugees from the island forts through a gate along the road of Gallan, a pathway prophesized by a dead Andii poet which will take them back to the first shore. While there Tovis almost bleeds out, her royal blood keeping the ways open and Derryg f%#s up a Forkrul Assail and some Lioshans before they escape - and you left them walking into Kharkanas, the first city of the Tiste Andii and place of Mother Dark's betrayal. Sandalath and Withal are following them.

The Snake children have been walking a long time, dying and speaking poetry.

Taxilian and his motley collection have found their way into the K'Chain Che'Malle fortress and met Sulkit, a KC drone hard at work on... something.

Tool and the Barghast from book 3 have crossed an ocean to fight Tiste Edur and found them already trounced by Lether. They bickered over leadership and moments after proving to his 100 strongest detractors what leadership was, Tool forces Bakal to stab him in the heart so that they all might live (they are being surrounded by another tribe, Marel Eb, who will kill them all to take control) Thus the Senan, his tribe, are shamed and Bakal swears to make it right. Meanwhile, Tool, though dead, is denied entry into Hood's realm by his old friend Toc (from the cover) who is being used by both Hood and Olar Ethil, the ancient elder god bonecaster.

Meanwhile, Sechul Lath, Kilmandaros and the Errant plan to retake power from the younger gods.

Silchas Ruin is training Rud Elalle on how to be a badass soletaken with a conscience.

The Malazans perform a devastating reading of the deck which paints all the key players. Crazy stuff happens in Lether that night, including Telorast and Curdle forming into dragons and escaping. The Errant tries to kill Brys Beddict but Ublala Pung saves him. The Malazans ready for a huge march across the Wastelands towards Kolanse where they don't know what they will face. The mages are afraid of the Wastelands. Brys is bringing a battalion of Letherii as escorts.

Shurq Elalle is shipping out of Lether. Again.

The Perish Greyhelms, allies from book 6, need a new Destriant and are marching to meet the Burned Tears and Bonehunters mid-Wastelands. The Burned Tears made peace with the Bolkando queen thanks to Gall, Perish out-marched their silly army and left them in the dust.

Grub and Sinn went into the Lether Azath house and are travelling an obscure plain of existence.

Kalyth is the destriant for the last KC home, searching the plains for a mortal sword and shield anvil. They are dying, being hunted by T'lan Imass. Undead Jaghut arrise to defend them.

Torrent, last of the Awl, saved by Toc before he died, has left the Barghast tribes with Cafal (Hetan's bro) and Setoc of the Wolves, a feral girl. Cafal and Setoc hurry back to the White Face clans while Torrent has traveled alone and met Olar Ethil on the plains.

That's all I got. Man, summaries are tough.

Wow. I am pretty surprised anyone actually did it. Great, very helpful. You should do one for each book!
