Got an email from Rail Europe re: their birthday sale.

Check it out :)

Thanks for the link. Even with the birthday specials it's still a lot cheaper to buy directly from Britrail.

Right! Planes, trains and automobiles are sorted, visas are picked up and everything is in order. Provisionally our itinerary is as follows, still waiting on confirmation from Hetan as to the exact arrangements for the BBQ weekend. There's also a couple of days that we haven't gotten any firm plans for yet.

4 July - Arrive in London in the morning. Probably going to spend the day wandering around the city until the massively long flight catches up with us.
5-8/9 July - More touristy stuff in London, we definitely want to check out the museum, maybe the tower and look at all the landmarks. We'll be house-sitting for Pathos's dad in Buckinghamshire and commuting in each day, so we will likely only stay in London late on one or two nights since we will need to hire a taxi if we get back to Amersham after the busses stop running.
8/9-10 July - Depending on our gracious hosts's plans we will head through to Cambridge either late Friday or early Saturday, spend some checking out Cambridge and then go to the BBQ.
10 July - Travel to Edingurgh, most likely via London
11-15 July - Staying in Edinburgh, doing some touristy stuff. Will also take a trip to Speyside to visit some Distilleries, maybe go to Glasgow and make some other trips.
16 July back to London and then back home.

We haven't really planned much in terms of specifics, so if anyone has any (more) suggestions for things to do in or around the areas we'll be visiting let us know. Also if anyone wants to meet some crazy Saffers and maybe spot us a pint in exchange for tales of deepest, darkest, Africa you're more than welcome, provided we can get to where you are using public transport

TT and I both live in North London, so we could probably meet up with you in town at some point.

Also, FYI the underground actually runs all the way out to Amersham...it's a long trip though (and I have no idea when the last train leaves).

Don't look now, but I think there's something weird attached to the bottom of my posts.

Yeah, we realised it goes all the way to Amersham, it looks like the trip is about 40 min. I recall the trains still went back fairly late, it's the busses from Amersham to the house that are the problem.

A meetup would be great (with Fid too if he's around), just let us know what will suite you the best.

Not sure what my schedule will be like, but I'm in the UK by 2nd July. Specifically London. Got some family to visit, sights to see and whatnot, but if you guys are keen, I'm all for an impromptu pre-BBQ drinks session.

Sounds good. I'll likely have some internet access so if anyone wants to meet up just send me a PM, although a day or two's notice will help with the planning.

Hmmm if none of you are coming to Cardiff I may take a quick day trip to London, depending on finances. Always like to meet new Malazites!

We have rail tickets so we can go on day trips pretty much anywhere, it depends on how far we will need to travel and howmuch time we want to spend in London proper.

We are safe and sound in the UK peoples! Arrived early this morning, wandered around Victoria station and have now headed back to our accommodation to try recover from the jet lag. If anyone wants to meet up in London town between and Friday drop me a PM.
