It's a f/1.8 50mm prime (or fixed) lens. Cost me about $100 and it was definitely worth it.

I can't wait to go out shooting with it.

For those who don't know, it basically allows me to 1) shoot in really low light at higher shutter speeds and 2) allows me to turn a picture like this:

into one like this:

Number of downloads: 2

(i.e. it allows me to get a really shallow DoF)

Enjoy it. That's a fine lens. And 50mm was the standard lens for many of the masters of photography like Henri Cartier-Bresson when they did their street photography. So now you only have to go out and capture that "decisive moment" like HCB talked about :(

I actually went a bit further and got the Canon f1.4 version so I could do more low light photography and i love it as well. It's been brilliant for doing live music stuff in crappy lighting conditions.

I look forward to seeing what you'll post from your new lens.

One of my favorite lenses is the Nikkor f/1.4 50mm.....It just takes such amazing pictures.

At wide apertures you have to be careful when taking pictures of people though, when I first got it I noticed peoples nose's would be in focus but their eyes wouldnt.....was annoying!

Why would you apostrophise the plural 'noses', but not 'eyes'? #idontbelieveit
It is perfectly monstrous the way people go about nowadays saying things against one, behind one's back, that are absolutely and entirely true.

I have an apostrophe quota of one per post.

Because I am a rebel, I chose to misuse it.

Oh wait, no, I just fail at that there speaky in text stuff.
