There's a really sweet shield around the Goddamn That's A Giant Rat. Spider shield.
The blobs that are near the bonfire can be farmed for souls and the titanite they drop. Once you figure out the layout of the Depths, you can farm a ton of humanity and those blobs in a few minutes and it comes in handy later on.
There's another boss in the Depths somewhere, so enjoy finding it.

Heh. You're gonna love Blight Town.
Yeah those blobs drop green titanite, that enable you make a divine weapon keep the skeletons down.

Fire sorcery has some incredibly powerful stuff, but much of it is short range or needs a melee complement.
So yeah, if you like standing off for a while before wading in, regular sorcery is more interesting.
However, right now, you should be practicing how to inch along and spot snipers in Blighttown, then either run past their fields of fire or snipe them back with bow and arrow.

Give it to him. Only the smiths that can use certain embers will ask for them.
Raw weapons increase their base/normal damage, which can get really high; but doesn't scale with strength/dex. So early game, if you're S or D isn't that high, they will deal a lot more damage than the normal weapon.
Like, a regular claymore will do 103, but a Raw will do 177. A +5 Claymore does 154, Raw +5 does 236.
But later in the game, a weapon that adds a ton of damage based on scaling whatever is your best stat, Int or Dex etc, will be more powerful.
I only tried a raw upgrade once, as I was looking purely at the base damage, which looked awesome. But I realised after that I'd lost my strength bonus, which by late game can be almost as high as your base damages. I changed it back.
Making a Divine weapon as a 'second' weapon is a good idea as you'll definitely need one for the Catacombs.

Just do claymore +6 for now. Don't do raw for anything yet.

Damn but that's come round quickly. That's my sleep shot for the next few weeks.
Although I'm kind of tempted to take my time on this one since it's supposedly the last of these games.

Trying to farm humanity in Depths and yet in 3hrs of xtra time I haven't gotten 1... Wtf
It's a crappy place to farm it. If you have the gold serpents ring which boosts finds, you can get some from the rats but not much. There's a place at the end of the catacombs where you can farm a ton of it, when you get there.
Do you need some now?

Think it's B.
If you've 20 humanities, you don't need more for a while. Get into Blighttown and find the next boss at the bottom of it. When you get to the swamps, let us know if you feel like exploring to find one of the best scenic spots in the entire game. If not, can go straight to the boss.

Is it worth going back to the Asylum to get the Rusted Ring first? The swamp is SO much easier when you can walk through it normally.
DS 3 is here! Well, at home, on the doormat. And I'm at work, damn.
Pleased to see the reviews seem positive. I want to play...

About an hour into DS3.
Just pushed open some doors onto a view that could be from DS. Have found firelink, and I'm now walking a castle very much like the Undead Burg.
Went with Assassin class this time, I guess I just like a dex build. Have also got a sort of shadow spell to start with that muffles noise and aids falling. Although I've also started with a big old Estoc, which seems weird for Assassin but was more than sufficient to off the 'introductory' mini boss.
Looks just gorgeous at the moment.. very, very like DS, with a Firelink kind of like the nexus. And Andre! Fecking awesome.

It's called Lothric, but seems to be the same world - firelink holds thrones from previous Lords of Cinder, whose souls are needed to relight the ember of the first flame. So not sure when it is set - maybe a few cycles after DS.
At least one returning npc so far from DS. Although I did just see a tree giant like the ones in DS 2; and one of the lords in the intro is a giant, so maybe links into both previous games are tied into this one.

When you get back into DS1, go find the crow near Firelink and return to the Asylum. You gotta get a couple items there in order to 1) not hate the swamps and 2) unlock one of the coolest areas in the game.

It is a totally horrible area.
I'd follow Amphs advice though - go back to the firelink/church elevator. Roll off it onto the first ledge you see on the way up. (Take the left elevator from the bottom.)
Walk round until you see a bit of the firelink building you can roll/jump onto. Then go up the steps to the crows nest. Crouch in it until the crow flies you back to Asylum.
There is a ring there that helps you walk through water at normal speed. The base of Blight Town is a swamp. That poisons you. Believe me, it will help!

Made some progress atleast! Got one of those dart fuckers taken out. BT is hard! Of course my sever headache is prob hampering my play skill. Being on the verge of puking isn't helped by the BT shading and narrow wooden paths.
BT at first, is one of the worst places on your first playthrough, but once you have done it and you know that the dart twats don't re-spawn it is actually a good area. BT is actually one of the best farming areas of the game when you need Large and Green shards. Personally I actually love BT now that I have pretty much memorized the area (that and I use the back entrance rather than depths entrance lol)
I've actually put the game down for a bit, got an itch to play Borderlands 2 so back on that at the moment. Got to pay a credit card off, then I will hopefully be able to get my Xbone and DS 3
