I mainly use my weapon, and my pyromancy versus larger bosses that allow me to use ranged tactics. Man this game is awesome, if difficult at times.

That might just be the greatest understatement of forum history.

I just got hold of this a couple of days ago. Brilliant game. I managed to kill the bell gargoyle and the titanium headless one legged thing. I'm happily dying like a fly and after reading a chapter review it just gets tougher and tougher.

Also I accidently killed the blacksmith...when do I meet the next one? can I buy stuff from him despite murdering this one by accident?

Picked this one up myself a couple of days ago. Definitely not the OMG HARDEST GAME EVER, but pleasantly challenging nonetheless. I do love how it doesn't mess around - I reached about level 16, was easily circling and murdering hollow soldiers, when the one with the spear under the bridge where the dragon attacks in Undead Burg killed me with a quick combo as I stared on in too much shock to actually react. Then I lost all my collected souls trying to get back there and following him off the bridge. Good stuff. Atmosphere is fantastic as well, and I'm enjoying how the lore is delivered through small tidbits and item descriptions.

There's a blacksmith to be found in the area just outside of New Londo. Killing that blacksmith in the tower was a truly evil act however. One of the few genuinly nice and helpfull people you'll meet.

So yeah, you fucked up. You fucked up good :)

It was an honest halbard related accident! Seriously didn't think it would actually send him on a rampage. FYI he was tough. Kicked my ass barehanded too.

You killed Andre? WTF man?!

Oh well, next time, just run away and go pay the confessor dude to remove all NPC hostility - I accidentally hit the Giant Smith and paid about 60k souls for that crime but it was far better than missing out on what he sells.

Being that's not an option for you now, just know that you can't make any divine/occult weapons now as Andre's the only one who can do that :)

Well that just makes it pointless to continue. Gonna have to start all over again. Damn, i knew i shouldn't have killed him.

Someone help! Damn hydra is kicking my ass...

Just an update. Started again. What took me 10 hours I cleared in one and a half. I'm pleased as punch. I am now hunting yellow titanite so i can upgrade my scimitar. Love that word! Scimitar! Also is there a point to killing the hydra? At this point I'm a bit unsure in which direction I should focus my unjustified rage.

Kill the damn Hydra! First you need to save at the bonfire in the cave down the hill, so you're not too far away. Then run to the hill that leads down to the lake, but head up to the left on the ridge, so the crystal golems can't reach you and get wiped by the Hydra blast instead. Then head across the other way, dodging blasts until all the golems are dead, but you got to do this fast so you only have to avoid one blast so stay light.

Run down to the Hydra, dodge blasts, until you get right up close. There is a horrible ledge in the water that it is really easy to fall off - but to stop the Hydras water blast attack, you have to get into the shallows, Then when he plunges his heads down to attack, chop away with your best weapon, concentrating on one at a time, being careful not to fall off the ledge! If you get close to the ledge, the heads attack a bit behind you, so you can sort of turn round to hit them. Remember that if you get too far up the bank again, it will do water blasts again which can wipe you out. You can block, but it might not be effective at lower levels, and if you spend too much time gettting up the head move out of range again.

One or two of the heads attack along the ledge though, so I left them til last - and took out the last one using a bow. By that point though, he can't really hurt you as all the attacks go to the same spot.

Best item to carry is the Rusted Ring, as it means you can move freely through the water, so you can dodge and then attack quickly. (The ring is in the Undead Asylum, when you go back to it).

You'll feel better when its dead. (But don't gloat too quickly when you get down to one head like I did, and then fall of the ledge... aarrrgh!)

Oh and by the way there isn't much point to killing it on newgame +, unless you want it out of the way so you can reach the gold golem and the woman who sells you stuff at the back of the lake.

So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

I've had this game for a few months now but only just saw this thread so forgive my lateness to the party.

I have been playing video games in one form or another since the NES came out but I have never played one as frustrating (at least for me) as Dark Souls. I've actually put it aside and moved on because I could feel myself building up to an aneurysm...right now I'm stuck at the giant-ass butterfly that shoots lasers out of it's face; I've only come close to killing it once and by close I mean perhaps a third of its health left. What with having to kill about 4 stone giants just to get to it, I lacked the interest to keep trying after I died again and again and again. I understand that part of the fun is that the game is challenging but there's a fine line between challenging and "oh fuck off already" and I think Dark Souls crossed it with the butterfly of doom. :p

The game gives you a win button right before the butterfly - if you're in human form, there's a summon sign for an NPC witch hidden behind the stairs going up to the boss fight. Once in the battle, just run backwards and forwards like an idiot while she nukes it.

THIS.

I had to kill it with weaponized luck. If you're like me and can't get the witch just suicide-run your way to the butterfly, engage no one! after that keep directly infront of the thing and roll dodge like mad. You can manage this suprisingly well aslong as you keep directly infront of it. Watch for the super laser, takes longer to charge. if you're using a one handed weapon hold it in two and beat the shit out of the damn thing when it decides it needs some flower juice. took me three juice-sucking ganking sessions to kill it but like PM suggests If you did not accidently kill the sorceress... >'_'> use her.

How did you accidentally kill her? I didn't think she existed in the actual game world, just as a summon sign.

It's funny how people struggle with completely different enemies. I never had any problems with the butterfly. Dodging the laser is fairly easy and the dart things do little damage if you hide beind a shield.

When it lands hammer at it with two hands. Withdraw and repeat.

I, on the other hand, seem to have a hell of a time killing the Demon at the bottom of Undeadburg. Whichever build, that bastard with his two dogs always seem to force me into a rage.

I have a bigass lagging black sword that dropped off a black knight. when I attack it takes roughly three years to get a swing in. when I killed the gold golemn, the sorceress appeared. I accidentally tapped attack and after she told me her life-story the sword hit her. she got pissed and I had to run away.

I killed the demon in eight tries, found a system that works. Your best bet is to use firebombs but I got away with hit and run tactics. first things first, dodge around it to your right and then run up the stairs, then kill the dogs which always get to you first (I had one dog in the eighth fight and one dog sneaked up on me after, some people tell me you usually get two at once? I dunno.) anyways from the top of the stairs run to the ledge/bridge thing on the right and wait. the demon can just barely reach you so block and wait for him to fall, which he always does. when he does drop-stab him and slash him two-handed once or twice then run up the stairs and repeat. if you have firebombs I suggest you dump 'em on his head as much as possible.

Different sorceress, that was Dusk-of-Oolacie; you screwed up getting the expansion content if you have the PC version, but that's it. You should still be able to summon the witch, but moot point now I guess :p

Demon Souls seemed pretty good, but I only played up to the first boss.

I just don't have the time or energy to put that much time into video games anymore.... and Demon Souls/Dark Souls are two of the most time-intensive games for the PS3.

I'm looking forward to the next MGS game, but that's about it.
