Ok, so, I am in 10th grade right now and we had to do a commentary on Walter de la Mare's poem "The Listeners", and after thinking about it for a while, the poem is quite a bit like Icarium's storyline in this book... With the warning and no answer and no attention. and then in one interpretation of "The Listeners", it may be that the Traveller is a ghost and the people in the house are alive, while in Icarium's case it is the other way around...
Has anyone else read this poem and noticed it?
Here is an online copy of the poem if you wish to read it...

"I'm having one of those things... A headache with pictures." An Idea? "Yeah, that's it!"

A few references there tickle the Icarium if you know to look for it.
'lo there do i see my father. lo there so i see my mother and my sister and my brother. lo do they bid me to come to them and take my place, in the hallowed halls of Valhalla, where the brave may live forever.'
