First of, if you don't like speculation about major plot twists, this topic is not for you. It also contains spoilers from probably all books, but that is to be expected.

I'm rereading the series, although not in sequence and am now almost done with Deathhouse Gates, which is the last book before DoD that I have to reread. Strange perhaps, but I could not stand DG, which is actually a tribute to it's compelling story about the chain of dogs, the end really rubbed me the wrong way and some strange illogical hope still resides in me that this time they all make it .

Now onto the speculation.It always puzzeled me where Herboric comes from in the dreamsequences in DoD. He isn't anywhere near Kolanse or the wastelands when we last see him (sinking to the bottom near Oratal Island). But I could be wrong about this, cause even though I've reread nearly the entire series some details still evade me. Also the connection with the K'Chain that Herboric has through the destriant (dont remember her name) struck me as somewhat odd (although this is MBotF).

However in DG right after Gesler, Stormy and crew pick up Herboric, Felsin and Baudin, Stormy gets his leg injured. Herboric heals him by trusting his hand into the wound. Kulp sees this and notices that a great power flows through Herboric into Stormy. Kulp remarks that Fener isn't a healing god and Herboric confirms he isn't, at least not for a price.
It is not exactly clear which hand Herboric uses. It could be the oratal hand it could be the jade hand.

The question this leaves me with is: Is part of Herboric a part of Stormy including some of that Jade Statue mojo? This would, for me explain the link between Herboric and the K'Chain who are after Stormy. This also gives me a crazy idea about Stormy betraying everyone cause of Herborics line in the prologue of DoD about Bringing justice that 'we' won't like since the FA bring justice in a very brutal way. Stormy could be unaware of this of course, cause he doesn't strike me as a betrayal kind of guy.

Sorry about the lack of quote fu, my copy of DG is in Dutch and I lend out DoD.Maybe it's all gibberish, but I wanted to share the thought.

More likely magical ghosts are not hampered be such petty limitations as geography and just wisk were ever they want in the great beyond.
