So I've just finished reading Death Masks, liked it a lot! Susan kicks ass! I really liked the Denarians and the whole system of corrupting coins.
The main thing I'm still confused about is who were the hitmen trying to kill (Cassius in disguise as) Father Vincent at the start? One of them was disguised as Hendricks, but Marcone didn't know about it, so what force with shapeshifters was there in play?
Aside from that, I think it's pretty weird that Harry never used his shield bracelet the two times Anna Velmont held him at gunpoint. Seriously Harry, just turn on your shield, grab the Shroud and run!
Excited for Blood Rites!

Heh Heh.
I do believe (though I could be mistaken) that this is one of the unsolved Dresden plot-points that continues through the books. I don't even think we know who it was by CHANGES....There is meant to be a few powers in play that Harry can't figure and presumably we won't know till it or they really come to light.

you do get a feeling that in the first few books there is someone out there manipulating all the things that are going wrong, at first i thought it was his fairy godmother but then i got to thinking it is something even more powerful and sinister.. i am up to the same book as you D'rek, i stopped reading them when stoneweilder came out, then went to the pince of nothing series for the second time, so once i am finished i may get the next dresden book before the tcg comes out.
Apt is the only one who reads this. Apt is nice.

From what I remember it was Hendricks (or was it not the one they call spike), Marcone didn't know anything about sending hitmen to kill Dresden, he'd sent hitmen to get Father Vincent (since he was the shroud buyer and new something fishy was going on), Dresden got caught in the crossfire and assumed Marcone was after him. Marcone didn't bother to correct him because he assumed Dresden wouldn't believe him. Don't think any shapeshifting was involved.

I'm fairly sure it wasn't Hendricks. I'm also fairly sure that in the gunplay (some of which were Marcone's men), there is a dark car that runs off and Harry doesn't know who it was shooting from it...and asks Marcone in that convo in the limo and Marcone swears it was none of his men....and then Butcher leaves it at that. If I'm not mistaken, this same sort of thing happens at the beginning of...one of the later books and one of the wolves has to save him...
...and I have to assume Black Council...
