Well, I've finished it just now and... wow. WOW. I was absolutely amazed. Fun and engagin combat, an interesting story, an awesome dark setting, (?) lovable characters (I'm running out of terms for 'awesome') and all of that with very intuitive and seamless flow and progression. Dunno why I haven't heard of the game before the Steam sale. I'd reccomend it to anyone that liked Soul Reaver, God of War, or, as I hear - Devil May Cry and Zelda games.

Anyone else got that gem?

i bought it the other day but havent played it much, up to Tiamat so still early on in the game, loving it but cant find the time atm

I bought it a while ago and played it a bit before putting it away for later. I got to around the Tiamat area.

The game is a bit more cartoony and flat than I expected. The environments don't feel really alive, more like just a video game level, and War is ridiculously out of proportion, but then again he isn't quite human is he. I'll say that the gameplay is fun and innovative though, I like the variation in environments.

Still, there is other games in my "To play" pile that have higher priority.

I seem to be one of the few people who not only did not think the game was good but could not see any attraction at all. Combat was tedious, the puzzles boring and long without being challenging. The graphics very dated. Lots of games go for a cartoony look but still make it look good, in darksiders it looked like they were trying to hide flaws.

I'm a sad person then because I loved it - even finished it. I found Tiamat was the hardest enemy and Silitha, oh yeah and killing the wormy things from horseback was a lot of fun. I would point out that I'm not a gamer at all which may be why I emjoyed it so much - the puzzles and stuff that is.

The Destroyer was somewhat easy in comparison to a lot of the game I must say, though I'd say Tiamat wasn't especially hard... Now, some of the 'trash' packs, especially when multiple 'blade maidens' as I call them in my head - floating girl demons with skirts and dual wielding swords, that go ethereal half the time and do HUMONGOUS damage to you - were a tonne harder than any boss. Straga was especially fun, if not very challanging. Fun with portals!
I also have to say that the whole sequence with Ulthane and the little contest was plenty fun as well.
Has to be said though: once you get the Abyssal Armor, the game gets realllly easy. Saving grace that you won't be able to until really late in the game.

I have a new playthrough in mind, getting every collectible, on Apocalyptic difficulty. We'll see how it goes!

I thought it looked too much like a console port to seriously consider purchasing it. Might have to re-consider.

Well, it IS a console port, though I must say that I was very satisfied with the controls with keyboard/mouse - very intuitive.
Personally I'm not much for this style of games, but when I saw it features angels, demons and War, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse as the main character, along with reviews linking it to Soul Reaver, I was curious. Plus, it was on sale!

Bought it when it came out, played it, beat it, loved it. A great fusion of elements from the "God of War" games and "Legend of Zelda" games.
Would be absolutely awesome if they could incorporate some kind of multiplayer option for the sequel.

Decided to give this another go because of Gothos praise.

I wasn't really feeling the love, just seemed like God of War with demons, but THEN! I got to the Uthane part. You have to fight this giant elder god guy and while you're fighting over a hammer a squad of angels attack you and now you team up with the big guy and you're kicked angel ass all over the place. Then one of the angels drops his weapon and now I'm wielding an angelic auto cannon with unlimited ammunition and there's a whole army of angels to blow out of the sky.

That level was fucking awesome. Now I am on some mission to prove my worth to this Uthane guy.

Just finished the game.

That was a pretty interesting ending I must say. Now I am super pumped for Darksiders 2.

I must say I didn't quite understand what the plot actually was, was there a secret bad guy that we didn't meet?

I bought Darksiders 2 last week during a pre-order sale. The game is pre-loaded as of now in my steam folder. So much anticipation. Why oh why would you release a video game on a monday? That's just cruel.

I wasn't really that interested to begin with. Oh sure, the first game was fun but it wasn't really "First day purchase" material. Then the reviews started coming in, very positive reviews, along with some very interesting gameplay videos. Seems they have expanded upon all the good stuff and fixed a lot of the bad, including making the combat much more versatile and giving you quick travel so you don't have to travel from one end of the world to the other to get that one soul shard or what ever.

Anyone else looking into this game on its release?

I'm downloading it right now and am pretty excited for it, I loved the first one. If the only things that whining British guy in the first video could fault were the porting issues (I was impressed that he managed to string out the same complaints for almost an hour) then it must be pretty decent.

Total Biscuit has made a niche for himself within the PC MASTER RACE community by putting a lot of emphasis on the technical aspects of a PC game when he does his "WTF"s. Hell, he may, possibly, if you ask him anyway, have personally made the developers of The Darkness 2 put in proper FOV scaling, just by bitching loud enough about it over Twitter. You should hear him complain about the textures in Prototype 2.

Just checked the games status in my steam account. Turns out they're unlocking the damn game at around 23.00 tonight. What is this bullshit. Why not just say 21st of august then and release it at midnight!? My hopes! They are dashed upon the jagged rocks of the coast of arbitrary release days.
