Well, today I got a new watch (old one missing a button, strap about to break again, and despite it being my old, incredibly faithful watch, it was getting a bit worn, so time for a new one...after nearly a decade, it's probably worth it), House season 6 on DVD, some chocolates, and a total of $550 from the relatives.
However, I now have absolutely no idea what to spend that money on. Which is disappointing. I mean, seriously, Iso desperate to spend it that I was looking at a new phone, but they're all kinda 'meh' compared to the one I got just last year (I know, I know...but see the strikethrough) and the only difference I'd get even for what would amount to $1000 NZD (roughly 500 US) is essentially the ability to get apps. Which I have on my iPod Touch. Which by virtue of being separate to my phone saves on battery, A LOT. I would have thought that in the space of a year, we'd have at least got something that's better than the Nexus One in substantial ways (I mean, it's basically still 1GHz processors, with 512 to 756Mb RAM tops, and the only variation after that is battery life and internal memory...wtf?), but there really hasn't been. Though I do like the iPhone4, mostly for it's display, but again, I have a phone, and I have an iTouch, and combining them would just mean I spend more time charging the damn thing.
So, I'm actually seriously considering banking my Christmas money. Which I have done in the past, it's good practice to save (right, riiiiiiiiiiight?) rather than spend on things I don't need/really really want, but seriously...I was even checking this thread heaps to try and get ideas. Anyone have any (reasonable) suggestions? (Bearing in mind currency conversions: $1 = 3 pounds = ~2 US dollars, and the fact that I'd rather only spend the $500 I got for Christmas, unless it's something insanely awesome in which case I can double that to $1000. Which is about how much an iPhone4 costs, just by the by, and also keeping in mind that some of the stuff you guys have, we don't get for another 6 months and is twice the price...but don't let that stop you suggesting it if it's awesome).

TEN BOTTLES OF ALE, NONE THE SAME
I will be trying Sneck Lifter and Reinbeer for Christmas dinner.
Speaking of Christmas dinner, I now have the most ridiculous collection of cutlery.
Over two Christmases I have gained:
An automatic pickle fork (for eating automatic pickles)
A telescopic fork (2 foot long, so my dinner comes on everyone's plate)
A tuning fork (bit blunt for food but don't even care)
A toasting fork (for old school toast and house fires)
A barbeque sword (saber handle with a fork end, which is glorious)
A motorised spinning spagetti fork (I like spagetti bolognese)
And just a really big knife, fork and spoon set for some reason.
This is really forked up.

bloody marvelous compared to last year.
10 pairs of socks, which I actually needed, a few of my old pairs are holier than the popes handkerchief, a lonely planet guide for mongolia, practical, 1001 historical sites to see before you die type book, which appeals to me very much, especially since I have the oppourtunity to hit a few this summer, chocolate money (still love this stuff) and some clothes. I do miss the old glory days of "santa" but as I'm a bit old for scalectrix I'm quite satisfied

- Sony e-reader, which I didn't actually want, but is actually pretty kickass.
- Lukyanenko's Night Watch, Saylor's Roma and Nabokov's Pale Fire
- 2 TB external hard drive.
- Some clothes.
- Documentary series on ancient civilisations .
- New backpack and port which I desperately need.
- About $100 from relatives who have no idea what I like.
And the best present of all:

Got me a Kindle. I'm hugely impressed so far, especially yesterday when I downloaded the sunday paper, and a few free classics I've been meaning to read for ages.
As well as Assassins Creed Brotherhood (Very nice) Fallout New Vegas (haven't looked at yet) and a magic wand that you can use as a remote control for anything, by making different gestures, which is quite fun.
Also Amazon vouchers, yay.
EDIT oh, forgot to say the PS3 - which was so totally unexpected i forgot to mention it, from my brother in law. It's the 320g one, which sounds good, but I know nothing about PS3's, having never looked at one. All I noticed was that it won't play PS2
games, and for some reason all consoles and DVD players that require an HDMI cable to play in HD never include the feckin things in the box. So I can't play my cool PS2 games like Shadow of the Colossus, but hey, I have a PS3 now, so God of War 3 will soon be mine. Plus I can now look forward to The Last Guardian.

I also got the other half the new Call of Duty game so that I can read my new books in peace over the holidays.
EDIT - Oh oh oh! And I remain undefeated Trivial Pursuit champion which is pissing Mr PigDog off soooooo much, it just couldn't be better.
