In memories of ice we get Hetan's brother I think telling Paran that a whole new generation of Barghest will use the weapons found in the tombs with the great canoes. I can't remember reading anything about them in this book. Anyone able and willing to enlighten me?

I can't find anything mentioning the swords either. I don't think it was particularly relevant to the Barghast storyline in DoD, except maybe perhaps if he pursued a 'lost potential' theme, and thus wasn't included. Or maybe SE forgot about it.

I was hoping it was being saved for a future stand-alone novel or a trilogy or something.

That way the young'uns have time to grow up.

Hmm, considering the fate of the Barghast in DoD, that might not be likely.

Been too long since I read DoD (on Bonehunters in my re-read) but I thought Hetan's little ones survived, at least.

hetans kids are only 1/2 barghast, and more importantly fled for there lives, there was no mention of them carrying weapons, in fact the twins tried to kill the barghast trying to hunt them down with a rock, i assume they would of used swords if they had them

Doesn't mean they couldn't get access to the swords later....

Don't mind me, I'm just hopeful.

I thought there was some off-hand reference in DoD (or maybe RG) to Tool tutoring a special group of young Barghast, implying it was those who started using the old weapons.

D'rek is, as always, right.

Barghast warriors were rushing out from the line behind them, the young ones with their ancient single-edged hook-swords drawn, Tool's most beloved whom he saw as his own children.

Ouch so most of the kids are dead except the ones with the other army that left tool. Would definately like to see more mention of these tykes in the future. Way to catch one line from a 1000 page book!

It's not too hard when you can discount 2/3rds or more of the book as having nothing to with the Barghast. DoD was harder, I wouldn't be surprised if I missed a reference in there.

iirc (and I sadly have no time to look), those swords were mentioned at same dead barghast (they are all dead, I know) at DoD, IMHO group slaughtered by Shigal Assassin.

Well, here's a mention, shortly after Gu'Rull's attack.

Quote

'We have too many young warriors,' she said. 'Trained in the ancient ways of fighting, eager to see their swords drink blood -slaughtering a half-broken, exhausted Letherii army did little to whet the appetites of those in our own clan - yet it was enough to ignite envy and feuding with virtually everyone else.'

Some non-White Face probably have some back on Genebackis too. And one of the tribes is still around on Lether right? The turtle-shell guys, I think? They always seemed like the smartest anyway.
