Just finished XO-Wolverine this weekend, or rather almost, we'll get to that... But I fucking loved this game. I feel like starting the game over right now and doing it all over again.





I've been wanting to play it for a long time, in fact as much as I bought the PS3 to one day play Red Dead Redemption, XO-wolverine was one of the games I had in mind when I bought the console. Took me a while to find a PS3 copy, this game is scarce here on the Danish market it seems.

Anyway, this Quick Look from Giant Bomb is what convinced me that I had to play the game (try to ignore the silly bro commentary if it annoys you):

The game is like this, non-stop for those 10-20 hours it may take you to slash, chop and stab your way through the game. It is basically God of War with a marvel make-over, only the combat is more fun and especially the throw ability is fucking amazing.

It tells the same story as the movie, only instead of focusing mostly on Wolverines hard-on for Sabretooth, it throws you into all the action packed stuff, switching between the present (Getting Adamantiummet the fuck up) and the the past (chopping up dudes in the jungle) and surprisingly it manages to do a better job of telling an interesting story than the movie did. Towards the end it kind of loses the plot, but otherwise, the missions and the story entertains.

If you like the Marvel Universe, especially Wolverine, you will love this game. It is an unapologetic excuse for pretending to be Wolverine and just chopping people bloody in all kinds of fun fun fun ways. And it is bloody. It's nothing like the film, there are limbs flying every where, people getting impaled on wall spikes and forlifts, getting set on fire, ripped in half and generally lots and lots of stabbing and cutting.

If I have to criticize the game it would be that it does get a little repetitive towards the end, and the story goes from interesting, to just going through the motions of tying the game together with the movies ending. The only big flaw I found with the game was the final boss. It is the most frustrating bullshit ever.

The final boss is obviously Deadpool. And he does that eye laser thingy, and no matter how many times I've tried to dodge and lunge and what ever I keep getting one shotted off the side of the smoke stack to instant death when he's smashing up the concrete on the rim. Then it restarts two fight cycles back and you have to spend another 5 minutes slicing up deadpool again and again.

So I don't know how the game actually ends, but honestly I didn't care. You know why? There's a motherfucking Sentinel in the game and you get to fight it, need I say more?

I give the game 4 out of 5 burning machete champions impaled on a wall spike.
