Ah but now we can search for new candidates .. Dassem perhaps, or Skinner, or Greyman (or whatever his name was), the possibilities are endless
Not sure why you guys are convinced there must be an outsider in there? Only Rake has been mentioned and from the way it was said he was an exception. Is there something I missed or are you just having fun speculating?
Yah, just fun speculating really... he is "missing", which suggests he's somewhere in the outside world... could be anyone Maybe Brys
Maybe we should buy Mr E a heater as a belated christmas present?

Hello one and all,
Dropped in on the site ten minu-- no wait, an hour ago -- and thought I'd give you an update on things. First off, I'm in the last section of The Bonehunters' right now. No, I wasn't blocked, distracted or unusually slow. There are four 'books' in the novel. When I finished the first three I did a collate on the files and came up with 711 pages. I was somewhat surprised, given I anticipate another 250 pages yet to come. Having said that, I should be delivering the ms. at the end of January. I write in 10 point Times New Roman, by the way.
The story seems to be holding up fine -- I don't know where you all got the idea that Udinaas had a role. Not in this one. The challenge in BH (for you as well as me, I suspect) is the structure, which is ... uh, unusual.
A couple other things ... the events of Midnight Tides do not occur on the continent known as Assail. In terms of series arcs, everything is proceeding just fine, so don't panic! Blues is not ranked among the Seguleh. Oh, and if the prologue doesn't end up in the PB version of MT, I will ask my editor if I can forward it to your site. I don't think Transworld will object.
The SF novella should be out any day now, with 'Fishin with Grandma Matchie' probably in the spring of '05.
The principal points of view in BH, thus far, have been various soldiers (Bottle, Fiddler, Kalam, Keneb, Lostara, etc), and Cutter and Scillara (no she doesn't have red hair and no I don't have a thing for red hair, but I know tempers when I see 'em, but anyway, Scillara's been fun to write); who else? Mappo, and a few others none of whom you've met (yet), including one travelling with Karsa Orlong (it's great when you hate characters, by the way. Fires me up no end, and I still hold that my best-developed characters so far have been Felisin, Karsa and Seren Pedac, all three of whom have avid despisers among you fans. Funny, that.)
Anyway, that's enough of the freebies.
There's five feet of snow outside, it's bloody cold but my laptop stays hot four to five hours a day, day in day out. The novel's coming, friends. Patience!
cheers and merry stuff

"it's bloody cold but my laptop stays hot four to five hours a day, day in day out"
Umm,,,I really hate to bring this up, but I'm a bit concerned for the welfare of our favourite author. Dunno how much of an effect this would have on him, but keeping a laptop warm on your lap for 4 - 5 hours a day does certain things to a guy,,,
lol, but he probably uses a desk, right?
Ah well, just some useless worries. Cheers!

Thanks SE. The problem is, he has now disspelled a load of myths, and now we're going to have to find something else to argue incessantly about...

Funny thing is how book # 7, Reapers Gale, sometimes shows up as out of print, while book #6 shows up as not yet published

Guys, the 1,000 pages would be a reference to the manuscript I think. This could translate into a 700-page novel though. Maybe even more, upto 800.
