i saw it on my first read, filled it away expecting it to have some relevence l8er on, but then forgot about it as it mock was never explained

Well, it does have the relevance of explaining why Tattersail is sometimes considered super-old-guard when she doesn't seem to have any history with the empire until at most a few decades before the main chronology of the books.

I kinda love it when D'rek unleashes her nerd wrath, as I knew she would here. Sorry innocent bystanders, but someone's gotta be the kindling.

Well, I missed something in the Prologue. Ganoes Paran smells burning human flesh. Not pig flesh. I needed two re-reads to notice it! How dumb I was!

Speaking of 'Sail and men, I've noticed on a reread that like ANY WOMAN (including Tattersail) looking at Quick Ben comments on his long, lithe fingers. It's like the ONLY thing that reminds me of WoT (women in there are always commenting on men's hands).

I re-read GotM for the 3rd time a week or so back, and I caught many references that I never noticed before. I also realized what an ambitious book I was reading--its scope is massive, and its characters hard to like at first. But once it grabs you, it really holds on. I have made snide comments about the series in the past, but I think I am starting to appreciate this series for what it is. We're lucky to have it.
