I wouldn't go simply because I don't like the cold, which is ironic considering I live in Canada but I'm 99% sure Mars is a little chillier than Alberta.
Would you go to Mars and never come back?

honestly it would depend on the quality of life such as if we would ever get to eat meat or if it would just be a vegan diet with some crappy protein paste for the side dish. What would the quality of things to do in the off time be such as what would be available for working out, would we get tv or movies, would we get books to read even it they were ebooks, and most importantly would they provide decent alcohol no Budweiser or any of that shit. There would also need to be decent medical care. I would definitely think about it though

I think the implication is that life would be tough, no space for luxuries on a ship with load costs around a few grand per kilo.

Lets say it is ten years from now. In ten years time. Your iPhone/tablet/what ever will have evolved into something crazy that can do anything just as well as the media we have now combined. Along with it you'll get a Petabyte harddrive filled with all the books, movies, porn, video games you can imagine. You'll also have a protoptype 3D printer to make you silly stuff.
I don't think entertainment or basic "luxuries" would be any problem at all.

have none of you seen Dr Who? It can work but the water will kill us all!!!
I don't think I could do it, too isolated and seeing the same people day in and day out... and the responsibility! I like my life here on earth right now, I'll stick with that. And I am nowhere near smart enough to be useful for something like this

Robots retrive an asteriod or comet and place in in earth orbit where telepresence workers and uavs (unmanned autonomus vehicles turn it into a livable habitat.
Seed habatat with familes while robots prep Mars.
after a couple of years of selection for those families that can handle the isloation (and for mars to reach minimul lifesupport quotas) attach motors to habitat and aim at mars for one way trip.
Habitat becomes home base for colonising mars surface.
Those who wish to live on mars would have already erned thier slot/proved their worth and susanability.
I would go if they could solve problems like bone deminaralisation and after making plenty of deposits in fertillity banks across the world

Imagine a world without such souls.
Yes, it should have been harder to do.
