Sweet! I was recently looking around for interviews where he further discussed his RP roots, couldn't find anything that good though.

I love the man. He went probably thru same "learning curve" as me and ended at GURPS. Ok, I moved to Vampire: the Masquerade, but thats too specific and nasty game...

The plan was 10 books, yes. So it'll be the last one. Or the last one in the series 'The Malazan Book of the Fallen'. SE could presumably come up with lots of other books while still staying inside the same world. There are already some other books outside of the Fallen series.

Someone doesn't know about the two trilogies Erikson is doing after TCG is released! One about Kharkanas the Early Years and one about the Toblakai, each book taking about 18 months to do rather than a year. That's SE's version of a slow casual writing pace.
