When the Trygalle Trade Guild crew land on the Reach of Woe, and Cartographer says, "It's the jam-smeared bread thing, isn't it?" when Glanno Tarp crashes the wagon, what does he mean?

It has been proven beyond all reasonable doubt that the most powerful force on Wu is a bunch of messed-up Malazans with Moranth munitions.

Drop jam smeared bread and it lands face down. Same as Cartographer when he was tied to the wheel.

Heheheh. Well someone helped me out with my confusion about Nimander Golit so I thought I'd return the favour.

Look! I've been reading the forums for months and have now actually made 3, yes 3 posts! lol

Totally off-topic, but I just want to say that this is actually a fable, the jam-smeared thing. What matters in whether the sandwich will land with the jam on the ground, or not, is the height of the table it fell from.

Reason for this (and there have been scientific studies, I kid you not) is that during the fall the sandwich goes through a series of cycles (much like a cat when she falls down has to go through a certain amount of steps in order to land on her feet. If she can't finish those steps before she reaches the ground... well... kitty gets hurt.).
So let a sandwich, covered with jam, fall from a table and it'll land on the jam-side or bread-side depending on the height your table is. The fact that one side of the sandwich is heavier than the other will have little to nothing to do with it, since your jam has only a very small weight in comparrison to your sandwich itself.

But as I said, completely off-topic. But a nice 'fait-divers' I say ;)

But then the mythbusters will just go and drop a c4 smeared sandwitch just for the sake of blowing sh*t up. Muhahahaha

In any case, it depends on which world you inhabit. If you're in one of those run by narrativium then the jam sandwich _has_ to land face down. There's no other possibility.

Actually, the toast will always fall jam side down if the Devil is nearby.

Especially if he is trapped in an elevator....

So the twist to the next M Night Shame film will be that one of the people in the elevator is a jam salesman.

Intrigueing! I'd totally watch that movie. Only if Samuel L Jackson plays the part of jam of course.

I bet the sandwich would land sideways in the Warren of Shadow.
The Errant scowled and looked away, his good mood evaporating. 'Mortals,' he said, 'will eat anything.'

Actually the sandwich would've never landed in the Warren of Shadow. Shadowthrone would've eaten it before it touched the ground (already in the fall ofcourse), Dancer would be looking at his friend with a raised eyebrow and Shadowthrone would say something in the lines of "I didn't eat the sandwich... or did I? Teehee" and then just disappear.

With apologies;

It's not when the devil is near, but when certain demons are. Then, the toast falling jam side down is "apt".
