I loved Watchmen. Best superhero film ever made in my humble opinion not counting Dark Knight.

The Watchmen blue penis film was a totally solid blue rework penis of the original materials that actually blue penis improved on one of the blue penis biggest blue penis problems with the blue penis source material blue penis giant massive blue CGI penis blue penis EVERYWHERE BLUE PENIS COMING TO GET US ALL AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH.
Purists who say he should have stuck with the giant psychic vagina space squid finale are missing the blue penis.

I don't think anyone here claimed the lack of alien giant vagina or overabundance of blue penis was the problem with the film.

I'm substantially (read 20 years) older now than when I read it the first time. So, on mature reflection, Watchmen isn't necessarily the subtlest of texts out there. But what Snyder did to it was replace any hint of nuance there might have been with slow-motion punch-ups. That's fine, it worked as a film. I didn't enjoy it as much as I might a less... *ahem* obvious take on the story, but it whiled away a couple of hours with some amount of entertainment. btw I'm actually among that minority of people who thought that the film was actually too slavish in its adherence to the look and plot of the comic; more interesting things could have been done with the material, I think.
Anyway, I was aware of the All Star Superman animated adaption and by all accounts Grant Morrison has even given his blessing to it (it was written, apparently, by Darwyn Cooke, who's no slouch); I may even get around to watching it some day. But I was hoping that some of its sense of wonder and joy in the material might make it through to the new Superman movie; all of which is looking somewhat unlikely given the very abundant evidence we have of Zack Snyder's directorial sensibilities. If we're lucky, maybe he'll surprise us.

If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. Are we even sure that Nolan is good for Superman? I mean yeah, he did awesomely great with Batman. But we need to remember that Superman is an entirely different character with a different Modus Operandi.
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

Yes, he is but that is why Nolan could be good for him, Superman needs to be toned way the fuck down. I want a film about a strong and noble super-MAN not this almighty alien god that he's evolved into.

Mayhaps, but that's what people know. I know, it's hard to come up with any real challenge for him, enemy wise. But that's why Superman has always been about saving Lois lane and the world first and fighting the big bang supervillain second.

See...they need to make it so that Superman has to fight the big bad super villain in order to save lois and the world then.

Well, if it turns out wrong, he could always just fly really fast backwards around the earth and turn time back... right?

I remember hearing about that story. He eventually began to die when the sun grew old and the light spectrum that the sun emitted changed.

As stated upthread, no. The threat needs to be toned UP. I don't want a film about Superman straining to stop a runaway truck. I want a film about Superman straining to stop a runaway meteor. A runaway sentient meteor. With tentacles and fangs and weird bat-monkey minions that throw flaming poo. Wait, this is starting to sound like a hentai thing...

Or that giant space slug from The Empire Strikes Back. Towing a black hole behind him. Because fuck you, Earth.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

I'm with Abyss on this one (sorry Apt) Superman is an alien god. The threats he's called on to battle should be of equal stature. Superman 2 is a better film than Superman entirely because the threat he faces is equal to him. Huge property grabs by Lex Luthor leave me a bit cold.
One of the many things Nolan got right with his treatment of the psychology of Batman was the tension between the identities. He saw, correctly, that The Batman was the person that the child who saw his parents murdered in an alley grew up into and that Bruce Wayne is the disguise. It's the opposite way with Superman; the Clark Kent who grew up on the farm in Kansas is the real person whereas Superman, the vastly powerful and benevolent alien god is the disguise. An interesting emotional arc for the film would imo be him coming to terms with that; Nature vs Nurture if you will....
Give me somebody like Bizarro, Braniac, Darkseid or Mongul in the new movie and I'll be happy. Notice that all of these are also alien gods, but they're the antithesis of Superman - they throw the humanity that Kal-El has learned into sharp contrast.

is there any place where one can get a good summary of all the comics? I want to start getting to know the comic book worlds better but dont even really know where to start or how to get my hands on old story lines for any of them.... Plus there are so many different arcs and stuff i dont know how they all fit or which i must read before i can read which one and so on
From what i have seen the whole comic book shop thing does not happen here in pretoria where i live.

It's pretty hard to say. Wikipedia maybe? There no substitute for actually reading the comics, but if you can't even get hold of them, that's out of the question.
