The sword itself is less than a hundred thousand years old.

that's right, but at least I don't know how much less. I believe the sword was in the making at not quite finished when Draconus got cursed by Kallor. BTW I found it interesting how Draconus described some ways of fashioning it in TTH.

as for Rake, I also agree he must have known about the situation within Dragnipur, and maybe he killed Hood when he did, to gain some more time as chaos was thrown back by that, for a time. his timing for the sacrifice also was influenced by the situation with the dying god in coral to my mind. he could not have let all the souls in Dragnipur go loose in the world, but he knew some were important and would last longer against chaos (like Draconus or Pearl).
also, if I understood right, he knew about Kadaspala making the child god, so he asked Apsalara to get it for him (I assumed it ws his voice she recognised. Draconus was so astonished about the chains breaking, he knew nothing about her getting anywhere). The risk of getting stabbed by the child god he probably took, which rather irritated me. he made himself dependent on Ditch' decision to act against the god in his eye. but maybe I missed something again on my reread yesterday.
