I have a thought that the CG's enemy from his home realm might show up. It has been mentioned a few times that he was in some kind of conflict before his fall, what if his old enemy showed up to finish the job. Maybe he was using the jade statues as a way to create a way into the malazan universe.

a huge consensus from a lot of people involve an Assassins guild so to speak, where does this come from?

It is complete speculation but it does draw from a couple of clues.

In MoI there is an alliance between Rath QoD and Rath Shadowthrone, implying an alliance between those gods. In HoC Kalam fumes that Cotillion should have stuck a knife in the CG at the last chaining. In TB the QoD 'collects' Leoman and Dunsparrow post Yghatan. Crockus sees this in a vision. At the end of TB Shadowthrone drops Kalam in the Azath and comments to the effect 'my collection grows'. Apsalar, Crockus and Kalam are all agents of Cotillion at various points. Because he is a god, Cotillion has been all over the worlds and warrens fairly quickly. He has moved people from place to place. Apsalar has used Shadow to travel entire continents.

So there you have it - the team, the motive, the means. Utter speculation based on bits and pieces here and there and nothing more. Tho more than bollox. :)

- Abyss, could, of course, be wrong. really. it happens.

Shadowthrone could also have been talking about Dassem's daughter who (it can be assumed) Shadowthrone placed in the azath house in Seven Cities.

I think it makes more sense that Dassem put his daughter in the Azath.

Yea but Dassem thought his daughter was truly dead. If she is in the Azath, then there is a great chance she still lives because the Azath are timeless. Thats why i think Shadowthrone threw her in Tremorlor.

While that's certainly possible, when mappo and co see her in DG she's referred to as dead. Then again, that could be an effect of the azaths timelessness

Wow, no mention of the enkaral-brained ancient TTT from HOC?
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

I don't remember such a TTT, and I remember the book very well.

again, something that hasn't really crossed my mind whilst reading it before...

HoC - the chained and possessed Theloman Toblakai in the well where the Ashok regiment are hiding, that Kalam then stabs releasing the demon possessing it, it switches bodies with an enkar'al and the enkar'al's soul goes into the Theloman Toblakai

Quote

Rage and terror. Unanswered, except by the promise of eternity.
Or so it would have remained.
Had the Beast Thrones stayed unoccupied.
Had not the reawakened wolf gods known an urgent need... for a champion.
...
Besides, this champion would taste blood... and soon

Another bad ass soon to be unveiled again?

Super duper speculation 1% chance of been true

How sweet would it be if it turned out to be Ublala Pung since he has the brains of an enkar'al and he does inherit armour from 7C Toblakai

Quote

"The ghost says there's a name for that armour," said Harlest, "even as the mace is named. First Heroes were wont to such affectations. This particular one, a Thelomen, haled from a region bordering the First Empire – in a land very distant – the same land the first Letherii came from, in fact. A belligerent bastard – his name is forgotten and best left that way. Take that armour, and the mace."

or at least the armour he get's could of at least come from this chained dude...

that is a good spot, although I don't think he would have any more to do with the series, it was enough that he was mentioned but i cannot see him fitting in anywhere, we have so many heroes/protaganists that one more would be hard to fit in now. he, (SE), could not write in another character and have us feel for him like we do the rest.. however i do like the Ublala Pung theory, as we do already like Ublala and to find out that we read about him in such an early book would be magnificent, we know the timeline is not important so there is no reason he couldn't have got from 7cities to Lether

i reckon he has to play a future part, couple of reasons for that...

SE's style to throw in a teaser a few books prior to the event happening, always does it... Look at MT and Feather Witches prediction that, summing it up... Rake would meet his vengance - that didnt happen until TtH

He hardly writes anything for nothing, considering how big a part of the plot the Wolves of Winters ascension was in MoI, then to carry this side-plot over to HoC, only throwing it in in a couple of cheeky paragraphs, must to have been for a reason, even if not tCG maybe the Toblakai series - the promise of blood soon to come is a sure fire warning...

As for one more character hard to fit in now - look at the Snake in DoD, second to last book i hardly imagined he would bring in a new character never mind a whole new side story with totally brand new characters, and look how large a part they may seem to play in the coming book tCG

who knows though...

Hetan knows!!! lucky lady!

I see your points and they are inarguable, is this a word?, You get my drift though, yes he could write him in, the Toblakai series seems more likely though and the Wolves already have a lot of people in the right places anyway

With Hetan having read CG and claiming that anyone who thinks it is a cheap ending is wrong (or something along those lines) Im worried that in the final chapter some Jade Giant power is going to completely neutralise/free/kill the CG leaving either a power vacuum or simply saving everyone (BH, Parans host etc. I just have that kind of feeling with it. Even so im sure Erikson, however he does it, will do it in a grand fashion

I for one welcome our jade giant overlords and will happily toil in their underground otataral caves...

Edit- If SE can conjure an old angry war bear god in TTH to die a few pages later, he could easily have Paran flying in on the enkaral TTT and killing the CG

As WJD says - Shadowthrone had nothing to do with this - it was definitely Dassem who placed his daughter in the Azath.

Should I be inferring that we will be getting some serious backstory on Dassem/Hood in tCG?

Or you should infer that that was well known and thus not a "wild card"ish idea. One of the two. Backstory would be nice, but so little to do and so much time in TCG.

*Every time I see the thread title, I think of Charlie from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....
