Anyone get the idea that the Tiste Liosan are the weakest of the three Tiste races? In HOC they almost seem to be there as comic relief, they don't have that aura of fear that the Tiste Andii or the Edur seem to have. They also seem to have been abandoned by their god figure (Osric) and appear to be unaware of it, which doesn't exactly inspire confidence in their powers of perception. Posted Image

And in the MT prologue, when Scabandari Bloodeye looks at the Tiste legions massing on the plain after the battle with the K'Chain Che'Malle, the only Tiste champions he thinks of who are deemed dangerous are all children of Mother Dark - Andarist, Anomander Dragnipurake and Silchas Ruin. No Liosan champion to worry about, save Osseric. No Liosan army to contest things.

Then getting back to HOC, the hapless group of Liosan led by Brother Jorrude (flogged first by the Tlan Imass, then scared off by Karsa, then nearly blown up by a bunch of mortal Malazan soldiers) seem to be a sideshow in the whole series thus far. Am I the only one getting this feeling? You just don't get that sense of burgeoning power when thinkinhg of them... Posted Image
