SE's comment with answers is here. Some brilliant stuff, including finally revealing his idea for how to bring the series to the big screen.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

Yeah, his idea is basically "HBO on a bigger screen". Unworkable for the next 10 years at least.
It should be "Keep buying Game of Thrones DVDs and HBO subscriptions like hotcakes. Then buy the heck out of American Gods. Then send in a bunch of letters to HBO/Showtime/Warner Bros to adapt my series either on TV or on the big screen."
Anyways, good catch, SMZ.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

Which was in answer to my question, I didn't really expect an answer and definitely not what amounts to a short essay, but there you go, Erikson is such a nice guy. And, after "Crack'd Pot Trail" I am finally convinced the man is a genius. Pre-ordered "The Forge of Darkness" today, can't wait for more Malazan stuff now. Note also how he kind of reveals that he'll be starting on the next Kharkanas-novel already while on vacation. I hope GRRM reads the Malazan re-read and especially Erikson's interaction with his fans.

Well, that was fast.
Should be interesting, RG is one of my favorites in the series.

Kudos to Bill and Amanda for plowing through the books so quickly. Someone hire poor Leigh an assistant so she can get through ASoIaF before I grow old and die. Or maybe they're just modeling the rereads after the respective authors' writing speeds.

Maybe she's just afraid to run out of material before the next book fails to appear.
Last year I projected how long the Malazan reread would take. I got up to 2016 before we ran out of stuff to read:
Quote
All right, here's my projected reread timeline. Assuming ICE doesn't write any more books, it looks like we catch up by the end of the Kharkanas trilogy in early 2016.
(Assumptions made: 13 months between ICE's books, 18 months between Kharkanas books, with TFoD published early 2013, and 17 weeks to read each book, which is what HoC ran us.)
