There didn't seem to be any segway between Icarium randomly saying 'The sea, it is filled with ships', and 200 pages later him being on one of those ships and headed for Letheras. I don't see Taralack convincing Icarium of going to fight Rhulad since Icarium doesn't exactly trust him and obviously they didn't get him on the ship by force. So what's the deal? Have I totally forgot something in between??

Icarium believed that Taralack was his "minder", and thus followed Taralack onto the ships. Veed knows what the destination is, so it would not be hard to lead Icarium in a direction if Icarium is just come out of his amnesia and convinced the person with him is his friend.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

In the Director's cut there is a deleted scene where they give Icarium a glass of drugged milk. It is just after he says "I ain't going on no boat. I pity the fool that tries to make me." Once he swoons, Face and Murdoch drag him on.

oh no wait that was all just in my head.

Please move along, nothing to see here.
Trust me, I'm a doctor.
