Oh man. I loved the last chapter of DoD.

Icarium as a skykeep, coming in and raping the shit out of the KCNR keeps....the general sorcerious conflagrations between them.....descriptions of oil and burning shit pouring out huge gaping mountain-sized wounds in the sides....cores exploding....halves of skykeeps dropping out of the sky......

And then the giant stone tree coming up to envelop Kalse Uprooted, melding Icarium into an Azath or something.

My fuck that was great.

Too bad the rest of the book was so unbelievably boring. That one chapter at the end was hellishly fun thoguh.

Glad I'm done with this one and looking forward to the next

I actually thought it was a bit off an anti-climax. It seemed like a waste to use the re-introduction and fight between the KCCM factions in this book. It could have had an entire series of its own.

you don't get to vote that it was anti-climaxish. Note the choices above.

joking...

I agree it was a bit out of place given the rest of the book's content, but I loved the scene itself.

One question about it though, was the KCCM v. KCNR v. bonehunters v. whatever convergence in the wastelands supposed to parallel (in time) the Darujistan convergence on a different continent? If so, why the heck weren't the other big players in there like the elders, the jaghut warriors, the BBs, the Forkul, etc...

No. The Darujhistan convergence from TtH occurs before the battles in the Wastelands (as evidenced by Draconus arriving free of the sword, OE/Mael/Kilm talking about Rake being dead, the Trygalle getting to the Wastelands, etc all before the Wastelands battles)

I kinda love it when D'rek unleashes her nerd wrath, as I knew she would here. Sorry innocent bystanders, but someone's gotta be the kindling.

Totally awesome scene. Did you get the impression that the final form of Icariums skykeep enveloped in Azath resembled the Malaz sigil the stone in the hand?
Someone looks at it and thinks it looks familiar for some reason, can't remember who right now.

Thought that was cool though.

So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Yeah. I didn't make the association, but that's more or less the picture that was in my head.

I liked the descriptions of the things too...Ampelas Uprooted trailing a stream of machinery, twisted pipes and leaking fluid all over the place, half the steel cladding missing from the back and just generally staggering toward the enemy with all guns firing.

I wish I could draw better. That would be a seriously cool piece of artwork.

I wanted to read the scene over and over again, especially since I rushed through it because I was really pressed for time but goddammit I was one chapter away from the end and I was going to finish it, but I never got around to it.

OK, Im going to be ashamed but... I wasnt so surprised, because I really wanted to know who survived from BH...and if that petty Shigal Assassin survived...and Icarium is going to die...and Mappo sad...and Quick is maybe dead... Sorry, Iccy, your magnifical attack left me unmoved by itself.

That scene was amazing! Shivers down my spine as the whole battle unfolded. And to the people who thought the battle "didnt fit" its cus it wasnt supposed to. Remember Abrastals story about a random freak occurence killing her uncle? This is that random occurence killing the bonehunters. They weren't supposed to run into the KN, they didnt know they were coming, it was just a wrong place at the wrong time thing. A demonstration of how its impossible to predict anything. AT least thats how I see it :p

It just made me wonder how powerful that Jaghut army was...

In particular how powerful Hood was/is and the same for Gothos..

Jaghut army is terrifying

Gothos and Hood are not your average Jaghut. They are most likely rival to Raests strength, making them Tyrant Class Jaghut. Which we assume is basically just very strong Jaghut Ascendants.

I think they are actually superior to Raest(one of Gothos kids), which is why I found them so...impressive.

Raest was roughly equal to 4 Soletaken and Silanah...without his finnest which from what I gather is a significant portion of his power.

Gothos freezes death on a continent, which is perhaps the most impressive display of sorcery that we see in the books.

Hood was the King of Ice and Death, so he must be stunning powerful.

Icarium seemed superior to Rake when he took out a number of Sky Keeps and then you have the new warrens he created which allow High Mages like Sinn to do something that Tayschrenn couldn't do..

Or the Jaghut from Lether that froze the sea god..

I suppose it could be a matter of only the strong surviving, but it sure seems like every Jaghut around is substantially stronger than their peers around Wu

i suppose the imass killed those who weren't substantially strong enough
