i mean, except for the CG and poliel, who else is NOT against the CG ?
gods and ascendents (i assume gethos is some kind of asc. ?).
if you consider karsa as ascendent, then maybe he is supposedly on the CG's side.
yes, that's right "maybe he is supposedly ".

but even poliel wasn't realy on the CG's side, she was used by him.

so how is it exactly a war among the gods ?

(all this is before i read DoD, so any reveleation there is unknown to me).

The CG and K'rul are the prize of the war.

The sides are not clear cut defined but on one hand you have the old, Elder Gods and Elder beings, on the other you have the newer Gods and Ascendants.

It could very well turn out to become old against the young, but really, these are old, nasty horrors. Nobody is on anybodies side besides their own. Everyone is trying to get a piece of the cake, maintain the status quo and hopefully come out on top. Some are in it to win, people who have nothing to lose and everything to win, that would be guys like the CG and the Errant, others are staying the hell away and just watching to see what happens, that would be guys like Ardatha, Gothos, etc. Some are worried about what's going to happen so they're trying to create favorable odds, like ST and Cots, and some just don't give a fuck, like Mael.

Or she was using him...

That's the thing, as much as gods may seem to be working together sometimes, for the most part they are all on their own side and are looking out for themselves. There's a wonderful quote somewhere in the books about war among the gods and how the lines drawn are blurred even to themselves and that throwing mountains at each other is rather impractical...

I kinda love it when D'rek unleashes her nerd wrath, as I knew she would here. Sorry innocent bystanders, but someone's gotta be the kindling.

Poleil was not used by the CG. What she did ended up being to his liking, but if she hadn't been stopped she would have killed all of 7C and then probably moved on to the next continent. And the next continent. Until nobody was left. Her aim was to make everything dead, making Broods final decision that much easier.

Ah but maybe the CG was expecting her to get kerplunked if she tried, and so he encouraged her to do it knowing she'd die but he'd get a nice new bunch of crippled folk to start a salvation cult with...

Thanks a lot, now I have an image of Peter Falk going up to the Crippled God and saying, "Just one more question."

It wasnt Chaos, it was purifying plague.

Compare it to CGīs manifestation in TtH thru his acolytes. He isnt interested in total anihilation. Not now.

Y'know, it's not necessarily all that clear in terms of sides (i'll restrict comments to TtH and prior)...

So far, only Poliel and iirc Mowri have actively taken the CG's 'side'. ST and Cots remain actively opposed. It seems the Queen of Dreams is allied with them or at least she was back in MoI. Hood and Rake were but now they are out of the picture. Dassem too. Then we have the Gods of War - we can safely say that Togg and Fancytail are actively opposed to the CG, but can we say they are working 'with' ST/Cots? I'm not so sure. And while Gruntle has every reason to oppose the CG, Trake's rivalry with Togg/Fanderlassie may swing things astray. Mael is clearly opposed, but his Jhistal priesthood seems to exert considerable influence on him, and if they went the CG side, he might have a problem unless he took the Drek route and just massacred them. D'rek is clearly opposed or at least not allied to the CG, but Banaschar, Drek's last remaining priest, is a bit of a wild card in the 14th. Fener? Seems opposed...

...all of which is to say, it's messy and there are a LOT of players unaccounted for including the Elder Gods.

- Abyss, ...is with Cap. Oh, wait, wrong fandon...

As of RotCG, Mael no longer listens to Mallick. That particular Jhistal priest's power over Mael is no more. It's likely a sign that any other Jhistals have had their power greatly diminished by the newfound worshipers that Mael now has.

True. I think back in DG Duiker mentions that Mallick was more or less the only survivor of Kellaned's purge of that cult, but RCG suggests there may be more.

And yeah Mael seems to cut the cord and we know he has other less bloodthirsty worshippers elsewhere (notably the non-humans on the Letherii Isles), but my point is that it seems Mael has fallen victim to the 'worshippers-influence-the-god' thing in the past and it could happen again.

And it could happen to other gods, since as we saw with Drek, the CG isn't above subverting the worshippers as opposed to the gods themselves.

MODGOD NOTICE OF POST EDIT: because your edit still left in various DoD spoilers, and this is the TtH forum. If you want to discuss that much content from DoD, do it in that forum.

Arghhhhh edited for spoilers sorry :D

ST & Cot - Team Tavore

Too many hints about her being their pre-emptive scholar, Cotillion showing all his humanity and grieving for injustice. Plus all their arcane knowledge from the Azath, and subtly gathering thrones and allies. Their twist being they would still like to be around and top of the pile when its done, but whatever it is, they've engineered it.

Poliel - Team Tavore

I miss you, you big diseased ol' hag. You would have been Team Tavore. The Bonehunters didn't get the plague, bless them, and you were all for power-ups a la Crippled God. You also had a rather long rant about returning everything that humans earned back on them, much as the Kaminsod ranted at Janath that its their fault for his pain. I know your army of plague zombies would have been brilliant.

Soliel - Team Asshat

You fail. As Paran says, all the goody two shoe gods do little, wring their hands and go woe is me. Then claim the glory when it goes well. YOU LET DUJEK DIE! Team Asshat for you.

Reason for edit: DoD spoilers removed

"Because you have killed Shetra my wife!" the Lord cried in rage. "Because I have been unworthy of her all my life! Because I do not fear you, Raver! I am free of all restraint! No fear or love limits my strength! I match you hate for hate..."
