The T'lann Imass's Shield Anvil comment is in reference to Stormy. More about that in the later books.
AS for Cartheron Crrust, well, he was one of the original members of the Empire, a member of the Old Guard, and was an admiral alongside Nok and his brother Urko Crust. After Laseen rise to power he and his brother "drowned". It was meant as a joke because everyone knew that the Crusts were two excellent swimmers. That's it.

Fiddler is hoping Braven Tooth has an explanation but obviously he doesn't. When the T'lann Imass says Shield Anvil he is answering to Stormy who had said that Legana Breed owed him and Gesler

Whats the deal with Gesler and Stormy? I know they're pretty much ascended now,
DoD Spoiler:
and everything but if memory serves..werent they pretty much ascended in DG when Coltaine punches Gesler or Stormy and they dont die from it? Do we know why they were prospective ascendants before that? Is it part of the mystery of the 'Adjutant' title? or have I missed that as well?
Im scared and confused

Two small things I thought I'd clarify that have been asked about in this thread. First; there's no mystery behind the Adjutant title, it's simply the name for someone who acts as a military aid to a commanding officer like an adviser. That was for Lazar and this last one is for way back at the beginning for haroos. The title of Shield Anvil, along with Destraint and Mortal Sword, are not titles to simply be given under gods of war. They can be given to just about any ascendant/god but it doesn't seem to end there as shown later.
The world needs hypocrites...unfortunate but true.
