If Tay does come back from Chaos (and that it turns out thats where he was) i think he'll either be very damaged to the point the only help he can be is in an intelligence/knowledgable capacity. Or he might have learned something very interesting and crazy like he has learned to harness chaos etc

which would be awesome
Friend, know this for certain. Whatever Anomander Rake now attempts to do, he does not do it for himself.

From what we've seen from tayshrenn, I would wager he learns some new tricks, no doubt.

So I am currently rereading DoD, and just finished the reading. I find it interesting that he was dealt the Magus of Dark card. Ties into the aforementioned idea that he may hold a little andarist juice in reserve...

i'm just wanting to clarify something here. the andarist connection is just a wild idea with absolutely no basis in anything other than speculation right?

Of course, that's why it's awesome.

Imagine, the most powerful sorcerer of the age and then gaining a powerboost (Hairlock did)

Maybe Tays will return.... as god (I mean, there is no known god of fire, is there ? And it IS his specialty )

are easily missed,

You could speculate that Olar Ethil, the one who gave fire to the Imass (in one legend), is connected with Fire. It is after all what the Imass worshipped and use against the Jaghut.

There's also Sinn who is some kind of fire goddess grandchild connected with Iccys new warrens.

So what about Quick being dealt the Magus of Dark Card... He can't die yet, he hasn't done anything with Kurald Galain. Since he is among my favorite chars I'm biased towards him.

One tenet that Erikson seems to hold almost fanatically to is that when his characters die, they die in fitting, almost poetic ways. Villains swollen with ego die anticlimactically, soldiers often die suddenly- shockingly suddenly, and his main characters tend to go through dramatically long deaths with extended internal dialogue.

Did Quick Ben holding his hands in the air, intercepting a random beam of light, in a random battle, with a random army of Nah'ruk, with none of his secrets revealed, and less than a page dedicated to what happened constitute even the slightest possibility that Quick Ben is dead? If Erikson wanted us to believe that Quick Ben was dead, he'd at the very least edge his description with the finality of it so that we would mourn his loss.

But he didn't, because he doesn't want us to know Quick Ben is dead- he wants us to doubt that Quick Ben is alive.

Do we even know what that light was? Who's to say he didn't summon it himself to alert Icarium, or to violently tear his way into the sanctuary of another warren, just as he spent the last of his power? Why would Lostara Yil's last thought after witnessing it be of Pearl? He told several acorns to attack, and then Quick Ben marched into the Nah'ruk- how do we even know that it was actually the master of illusion in the midst of them in the first place?

If it was a Nah'ruk attack that hit QB, we now have to assume that the Nah'ruk enter battle with some sort of superweapon that leaves a huge, unique crater, that they can only use it once, and that they would use it during the slaughter of the humans rather than against Ampelas Uprooted, their primary target- eliminating an entire phalanx of Nah'ruk to purchase the death of one human.

Does that sound likely?

If I have learned one thing in reading MBF, it's this-

If the Hulk impregnated a cockroach, it would be easier to kill than one of Erikson's ascendants.

The bastards never die. Hell, he's made death a warren somebody can walk out of.

Look forward to seeing High Mage Delat in Kolanse.
'Ublala,' said Draconus, 'save showing your horse for later.'
The huge man's face fell, and then he brightened again. 'All right. It's more exciting in the dark anyway.'

The Nahruk attack was most likely an attack from a skykeep to prevent more infantry deaths, as to not waste resources against an enemy that isn't the KCCM.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Its kind of funny if you think about it... The whole book the talk about how awesome and great the Bone Hunters are, and the Perish and Burned Tears talk them up, and they are the last great malazan army... The BOOM a army of lizards comes out of no where to fight another army of lizards and kills that army good. I mean why didn't the Letharii peoples just go in and let the bone hunter escape? Also the book seems to have the Bridge Burners as the main peoples, so every book so far has had one of them, so maybe SE was nice and let some survive that, Ehh, or they all survive but Draconus and Olar have a giant battle right on them, then every body dies.

oooh oooh, I know, Midnight Tides didn't have Bridgeburners.

It will probably not be the end of the bonehunters, though they'll be mauled a bit. Moreover, the chance that people like QB and Tays are dead are slim. Bottle probably is, or he is a fragment of soul somewhere (didn't that happen in another event with other people, AND Icariums involvement ?

This is a very valid point. But that still raises the question, if the QB who attacked the lizards were actually the acorns, were is the real QB hiding?

Quick Ben clearly opened a Warren, and went to take the Malazan throne for himself.

amazing quick ben speculation, as far as we know the deck of dragons has not been wrong, when Fiddler does his thing we all know who certain characters are, QB being Magus of Dark, which is such a great thing to be, such a powerful thing to be and this not being fulfilled beggars belief. Of Course he is alive!! Not all BH's die either, I think a lot of them survived!! Go Quick Ben!!

On a seperate but almost related note, we could come full circle and have ST and Cot as Emperor' and chief assassin of the empire of Gods, with whiskeyjack head of his army and quick ben as head of his mage cadre!!!
Apt is the only one who reads this. Apt is nice.

Quick Ben's alive. We don't know why he scattered those acorns, so they have to have done something. We know acorns flash-stun enemies in Ocarina of Time, but that was Ocarina of Time. This is Quick Ben we're talking about.
If there were no smart people others wouldn't feel inadequate.

Right?

Quick Ben might be a soletaken Skulltula.
