I didn't make any leap. I asked a question or two, to clarify rhulad's position. You can misconstrue that at your leisure though.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

I wasn't referring to people making an honest living at a job that can sometimes be dangerous. I was talking about people who do stupid shit in order to entertain themselves or others. For them, yes, pity from me is very rare.

Edit: @Gothos, thanks for the benefit of the doubt.

I wasn't making assumptions, which is why I asked. Just curious where people draw the line, and you made a specific point. They weren't meant as leading questions (or accusations, at all), except in terms of finding clarity and continuing the conversation.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Someone could make an honest living being a matador...

I kinda love it when D'rek unleashes her nerd wrath, as I knew she would here. Sorry innocent bystanders, but someone's gotta be the kindling.

Do matadors get drafted out of college? Is there a salary cap? Free agency?
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

Yes. Yes they do. I once saw a Matador graduate from the Lisbon School of Matadorology. Instead of giving certificates they gave him his red cape, and then they released a bull from the other side of the stage and he was like "Oh ho!" and nimbly lead it into the cage on the other side of the stage (which dropped closed and the next graduate would go up the other side of the stage). As he stepped off the stage, there was a man in a bright orange suit waiting to approach him with a draft offer to one of the top matador teams in the league. They had the paperwork all ready for him to sign, I was close enough to hear them negotiate the salary and the rate at which it would rise each year. The draftsman said the league limited all matadors to a cap of 22,000 goats a year and that this graduate could make that in 6 years with hard work.

I was there. I saw it. One cannot argue with an eyewitness account.

There's a saying out there that kind of sums this all up.

If you mess with the bull, you get the horns.

Man stands in front of an enraged bull, he better be ready to get gorged.
I want to die the way my dad died, peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming in terror like his passengers.

I would like to think that I have compassion for people in pain or have died.

I'm not really sure that I would be sorry for a dead Matador. This is a guy who makes a living out of hurting animals for sport. He's trying to stab a giant herbivore to death for the sake of entertainment. I don't really care if this is a traditional sport. It's still unnecessary. (look in the discussion forum for my PETA'ish opinion of animal rights)

I would how ever sympathise with the family for the loss of a family member. But I am also sure that bull fighters have lots of insurance.

I think I'll create a restaurant where ten people at a time get their steaks free, on the condition that they get one steak knife plus a few free resharpenings and a live bull to cut their steak off.

Meatador's: Where the steaks are never too high!
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Of course. Just because a person risks life and limb, doesn't mean you should shrug and say, "Bound to happen" when he gets injured. A certain measure of compassion is necessary.

It has been proven beyond all reasonable doubt that the most powerful force on Wu is a bunch of messed-up Malazans with Moranth munitions.
