You know, I'm watching Gladiator and something has occurred to me. With all the talk of Maximus being as a son to Aurelius (brother to Commodus) and all the talk of incest I can't help but realize that there are some seriously weird undertones between Maximus and Lucilla as well.
This lead me to another thought. If Maximus had married Lucilla instead of his wife, then Aurelius would indeed be his Father-in-law (that or be adopted as was also tradition).
That in turn got me to thinking about the very idea of a parent-in-law and the implications of the term. Do not some parents-in-law insist on being called "dad" or "mom"? Do they not sometimes call the new comer their new kid?
Does this not imply that your spouse is then also your sibling-in-law by extension?
What does this imply of human society and culture? What deep seated dark things hide in our very language, manifestations of Mississippi-esque behaviour?
The mind reels!

Edit:
I just realized MuttonChops' avatar is that of Maximus... Suddenly this post seems awkward...

I don't think so, because it is the man and wife that form the connection that joins the two families. And for personally experience with my elder brother's 2 marriages, the "mom" & "dad" thing isn't a given with the spouse.

About the avatar I choose it due to the fact that I always imagined the Malzan Armies as analogus to the Roman Legions but that's a conversation to have while I'm in front of a computer and not running on an elliptical usingy smartphone to post...

I know it's not most parents-in-law that go for the "mom" and "dad" stuff, but some do.

Also, you're posting while running on an elliptical? Now that is a very serious form of Board addiction. Well done.

A customer came in this morning and said the following:

"Avez-vous des spermatozoďdes?"

Which translates to:

"Do you (plural) have spermatozoa?"

At first I thought he was just some guy making a very stupid joke. Thus, I answered:

"Sir, you always produce it, no need to pay for it."

He stared at me blankly.
My second thought was that he just messed up his words or is suffering from dementia. The look in his eyes suggested the latter and I did not want to have to deal with an angry customer demanding sperm.
So I then said:

"Sir, it's not a product. You don't buy it."

His response:
"I'm looking for spermatozoa."

I made sure to keep the counter between me and him.
Finally I asked:

"Just repeat what you want sir and why?"

Something made it through his thought process and he said:
Him: "Spermatozoa... No wait I mean ah... What are those things for constipation?"

Me: "Laxatives or suppositories?"

Him: "Suppositories. That's it. I need adult suppositories."

I don't know why there was a connection between sperm and constipation relief and frankly I do not want to know.

Moving is ridiculous. A big ridiculous pain in the ass.

New Orleans is hot. Like getting punched in the face by an oven when you walk outside.

But life is good. Even if i havent been able to get on the net in over a week. I was having Malazan withdrawals.

Slow Ben, you still have a couple of months before it cools down, best learn to enjoy the heat or how to avoid it. Welcome to the south the heat isn't that ba it's the humidity that is a killer...

Heading to a real bar to grab a cold one and beat the heat

The Honeymoon was great, if I can figure out a way to permanently relocate to the Keys minus any hurricanes I'd do it in a heartbeat

Dutch, your ok.

Thats in the top 3, obviously. The others are the Ka symbol from the Dark Tower and the Bridgeburner emblem.

The wifey is being surprisingly supportive of my level of dorkiness.

A giant 'I'm your Huckleberry' Tatt'ed on your back.

The bridgeburner emblem would be awesome. Try and sketch out (tCG Spoiler below!)

You always have guys when they are conceived during a threesome.

Enjoy!
