Took a nap while the Xbox downloaded some stuff. Install process is fast, 15 min max including a patch but downloading games is just as slow as on PS4 PRO.
Rooting around gamepass I'm floored by how much stuff is in here. All the first party games of course but there's hundreds of other great titles too. Namely Destiny Beyond Light. AND then there's all the backwards compatible stuff!
I think I might finally play Viva Piñata and Marathon and Black.

Ho nerds.
We were having a conversation after quiz on Thursday. And the lady said she had always wanted to try DnD, but found the whole set up at the start daunting.
I figured, let's try multiplayer BG2.
Eh, this was not a success, because I know the game I just clicky through character creation and wanted to jump in. Which, understandably, left my poor wife feeling, I guess, a little flustered and possibly feeling under pressure to just go whatever and click anything. Over a running around the first dungeon was not a great success. (Poor Jaheira died in the library)
What would be a good starting point just to get a feel of DnD, without having to do a deep delve into the mechs?
I had thought maybe just starting a solo BG1, and I would sit with her as she muddled through the first phase just as a straight up fighter, which would give her a chance to mess about with druid and mage etc as the group grows?
The instant impact of a large group in 2 was a tad overwhelming too I think

Yea Gamepass is pretty bonkers. They recently added EA Play if you have Ultimate, so you get a ton of EAs back catalog. I just downloaded Battlefield 5 the other day to try it since its free.
I'd recommend Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire, which just hit gamepass, if you like isometric RPGs and haven't played it. Sea of Thieves, No Mans Sky, or if you are into smaller, more different games, something like Call of the Sea is there.
It is a huge catalog for sure.
Monster Hunter World Iceborne: It's like hunting monsters, but on crack, but the monsters are also on crack.

Does she want to try DnD, or video games based on DnD? Those can be two very different things.
If its DnD, there is lots of groups playing DnD over the internet, some with cameras, some not. You could probably find a group. Lots of places can walk you through or show you how to setup a character.
If it's a DnD game, Baldurs Gate 3 starts out pretty low level and kind of walks you through stuff, but it's not a full game in any way. Honestly playing the DnD video games can be pretty daunting if you don't understand the system, because it does get complicated quickly. And, if you really want to show her a terrible time, have her play one of the pathfinder games, where the choices and ability to completely ruin your character is much higher than the DnD ruleset.

If i was trying to introduce someone to DnD and couldnt actually teach them, I'd probably have them either watch or listen to a podcast of some gameplay. Either Critical Role, Adventure Zone, Dungeons and Daddies, something like that.
In fact, just start watching Critical Role together, cause you'll like it too.

I've never played or watched DnD but have an interest in the lore behind it, was looking for something to put on in the background 2-3 weeks ago whilst I read, put Critical Role on and now I'm hooked currently sat watching ep 44, no idea how long it will take me to get through the 200 odd episodes but I'm in for the ride. Really enjoying it.

Yeeeahhhhh.
Season 1 or 2?
The first campaign was something like 370 hours total. Not counting the "one shots", which are also awesome.

Season 1, figured I would start from the beginning, they've just had a "lesson" from Earthbreaker Groon which was class... standout moment so far though has got to be the Scanbo scene.
370 hours?! Damn, season 2 looks just as long too... that's a lot of watching... yeah...
I think I found it via the anime trailer, that looks dope.

Yea Grog's interactions with Groon are fun. It's a fun adventure and I hope you enjoy it.

His interactions with Craven Edge are awesome too, makes me laugh every time, too stupid to be corrupted.
Cheers, Obdigore.

Download games on Xbox or PC, but you can also try streaming them on your phone, if you have an Xbox controller hooked up via BlueTooth

Okay, yeah. Sorta thought that was what Phil Spencer was hinting at in a recent interview. The idea that Microsoft is getting out of the console biz and going more ambitious and wider... or some such mktg. message.

FF7 Remake is everything you might desire if you played the original back in the day but I hated the changes they introduced in the second half of the game.

XBox is doing an indie showcase on the 26th.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 footage will be there. Maybe finally..... gameplay
oh, and Squeenix's "Project Athia" now has a real title - "Forspoken" - and it's supposed to be out next year for PS5 and PC.

Also, there's another "Future Games Show" thing tomorrow- this is a showcase being hosted by.... Games Radar, I think? Anyhow, they sometimes show off cool stuff.

Supposed to be very very early in development. Was listening to a video game nerd journalist give his thoughts about what he has heard/knows so far. Seems the game may incorporate the dominate theme of the internal strife tug-of-war between Gollum and Smeagol. Could be interesting to see where they take that if true.
