Sorry for the double post but has anyone played Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes? It's on sale right now on Steam and wondering if it's worth picking up.

EDIT - never mind, Tapper answered elsethread. :crybaby:

IMHO: Yes.

Although frustration will hit at some point when, a few specials aside, you realize that the human factions (as well as the empire ones) are about 92.6% identical. The changes between them are good nonetheless, though.

if I boot up a pc game bought off steam (darksiders 2) and the visuals are off - split into red blue and green shades as if I was not wearing 3d glasses, what has gone wrong and how do I fix it?

Update your video card drivers
Try turning shadows off
do other recent PC games work? Could be a directx version issue.
Monster Hunter World Iceborne: It's like hunting monsters, but on crack, but the monsters are also on crack.

Drivers are updated to the latest version for the nVidia graphics card.

It ended up being a Stereoscopic 3D thing - I turned it off and voila, it's perfect. I think a ton of people are having this problem and turning off the 3D thing does little to nothing to the game.

Now I'm trying to figure out how to switch the d-pad and analog input, as the game seems to think the d-pad is the analog and so forth. Logitech F710, PC version of Darksiders 2.

There are programs that will trick your PC into thinking you are using an Xbox controller. Look for contoller remapping software on google.

I know of them, but I don't own any controllers, so can't help any more than that.

No Vivendi thread? I'm a bit surprised. From where I'm sitting it looks like Activision/Blizzard took Vivendi for a ride.

Not sure how. Vivendi have been in financial trouble for some time, and were looking to sell off Activision Blizzard in order to help alleviate those problems for a couple of years now. Some earlier deals reportedly fell through, and now Activision went and bought back their own company for $8billion (aka crazy la la money), so seems like both got what they wanted.

Activision married Vivendi. Got Vivendi to pay for the wedding. And now they're getting Blizzard in the divorce.

December 2007:
"The deal values Activision at $27.50 per share, or a 24 percent premium to its Friday closing price.

Vivendi will contribute its Vivendi Games business, which it valued at $8.12 billion, and provide $1.73 billion in cash for the 52 percent stake in Activision Blizzard. These terms value the combined company at $18.9 billion."

Well, Vivendi willingly paid for the wedding, and the marry me proposal was all their idea :p And Activision was as a rule good for them financially speaking. Unfortunately, it was also just about the only arm of the business which was doing well. They needed money fast and under those conditions they were never going to get the whole amount that they valued Activision Blizzard at. It's not Activision's fault if Vivendi was doing badly elsewhere, and they still handed over a massive wedge to buy themselves out.

As for the Blizzard part, well, that appears to be doing less and less well each year, WoW finally seems to be on the way out (albeit gradually) and I think they need to come up with something innovative fairly soon.

Vivendi seems to be one of those companies that buy, sell, merge, split, spin-off, etc. It's hard to know how well they're actually doing. (Often that ends in headlines using the word 'scheme'.)

I have neither the desire nor the capability of digging out what the Vivendi games division was actually worth back then. But any company selling off its only actual profit center in order to "focus on core interests" is usually in big trouble.

As for Blizzard, I think they'll be able to do better without Vivendi cost cutting. Or it could turn out that the cost cutting was do to the President of Activision Blizzard without prompting from his Vivendi bosses. And the whole Real ID fiasco hurt them. Again, not certain who was doing the pushing on that.

Aside from proprietary studios (blizz, Sierra, Fox Interactive), the only wothwhile thing Vivendi ever published was Simpsons Hit'n'Run. and that's only there because it was a GTA-style Simpsons game that didn't plain out suck (which is enough to make it good).

Loss of Vivendi as apublisher making decisions is no big loss. Whether Blizz will now become more Activision-y remains to be seen (but the way D3 went, I'm not hopeful)

Crackdown is available on XBL for gold members. I've never played it. According to Wikipedia it is a pretty old game (for the current console generation). Released early 2007. Is it worth downloading?

Free is a hard price to beat. I'd recommend downloading it and trying it yourself. Worst case, you don't like it and can delete it from the hard drive. Personally, I liked it, but that was back in 2007 when I bought it just to get into the Halo 3 beta. How well it stands up now, I have no idea, but it's worth a look.

I've seen some videos of Crackdown, it looks fun if a little samey, but it has Rocket Tag as a co-op mode minigame.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

I played through it half a year ago. It is very old and very basic compared to modern sandbox games. How ever it also has one of the most satisfying collect and upgrade systems. As you collect the orbs all around the city your character grows stronger, faster and more lethal. Towards the end you will be able to run faster than a car, throw shipping containers and leap tall buildings.

It barely has a story but it's well worth it IMO.

I'm in the process of downloading Crackdown and will have a play. By the way, I grabbed Assassin's Creed II and tried to gave it a go but I just couldn't get into it after playing Assassin's Creed III. Assassin's Creed III is far superior, in my opinion.

Well of course it is. Each Assassins Creed game has had the exact same core mechanics since the second one, only stopping to refine the abilities and animations each year. The reason why Assassins Creed 2 was such a hit was because they took all the problems of the first game and completely streamlined it. Adding a charismatic character and captivating historical setting and made a great sand box for you to roam around in.

Assassins Creed 3 failed in making the characters believable or likeable and the story is idiotic but it has the best game mechanics and world building to date. The thing that I really like about the franchise is that they don't mind experimenting a bit. AC3 added naval combat, a frontier where you could hunt, some kind of sim like homestead building system and exploration of catacombs under the cities. For that I praise the game but the game really felt more like a transition than a stand alone release.
