not really a question at all , just a comment:
I am doing a reread of RG now. Last night while reading Udinaas just absolutely verbally bitchslapping Fear Sengar and doing his little story about Fear as "the honorable hero", I kept thinking about how Udinaas and Tanaklian(shield anvil GH) might be long lost brothers. I also keep thinking about how udinaas would have an absolute field day on Krughava. Both he and Tanaklian seem to love thinking about people around them as mythical heroes and at the same time how missrepresented that whole happy hero's tale genre is one sided.

I have seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter at the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in the rain...."

That was the best thing about Tanaklian for me, when it clicked that he's completely and utterly wrong about what he sees in Krughava. He's still not a patch on the Ud, though.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

I agree Illy, but it is interesting to me, becasue I think Udinaas is mostly right, and I think Tanaklian is mostly wrong(only time will tell), but yet they see things similarly to each other.

Tho it would be interesting to determine that Tanakalian is actually right, krughava is a suicidal glory hound bent on a noble glorious blood soaked death and happy to drag everyone down with her.

But the Destriant's pre-melting comments would seem to suggest tanak' is just a complete dickhead, poor judge of character, and likely to get a lot of people killed.

I am curious to see if Setok manages to prevent that tho'.

But there is an interesting connection between Udi's verbal attacks and Tanak's inner monologue in terms of deconstructing the concept of 'hero'. Source is everything tho... powerless mere mortal Udinass spent most of RG telling exactly what he thought to people who could wipe him out in a second, while Tanak, who has to be at least a fully trained Grey Helm, stews in his own juices and gets shut down the few times he opens his mouth.

Or put another way, Udinaas is a hero, not even intending to be, while Tanak, who thinks he's the hero as far as he's concerned, is likely to be the opposite. At the end of RG Udinaas almost died at Wither's hands trying to save Kettle from Silchas Ruin (consider the power levels at work there and that Udinaas was fully aware of who he was challenging when he tried to save her), Udinaas has kicked gods out of his dreams and sent his son to near certain death to save the Refugium... with Tanak'... well, that remains to be seen, but i suspect he won't match up.

- Abyss, believes in the little guy.
