Anyone else notice Whiskyjack described as having a raptor's gaze. Is he related to Dick or is SE just taking the piss?
I seem to remember quick ben announcing that 'people are stupid' in an earlier book, which as we all know is the wizards' first rule.

This level of blasphemy surely calls for some kind of warning, maybe a 3 day ban?

I fear the ban may have to stand. I've found the paragraph and it doesnt say raptor's gaze.
but quick ben did state the wizards' first rule...

That's not just the Wizards First Rule. It's a common tautology. People ARE stupid. That doesn't mean you get to kick them in the face.
However, the statues of the Deragoth did inspire Hedge, Paran, and Co. to begin a capitalist uprising against Laseen.

Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

I understand most of the references in this thread, but who the hell is Dick?

Dick refers to Richard Rahl, both for the shortened form of his first name and for his personality.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.
