Any five 'dominant female' characters from David Eddings books.. Sephrenia, Polgara etc. etc.
I swear that guy gets beaten by his wife if he tries to write a scene in which a male isn't subjugated or humiliated by a woman...

In MBOTF I would thing the Mhybe for being downright boring, Mallick Rel, just cos he is so evil and nasty, I feel like I need a shower after reading a scene with him in it, and also any of the characters that started off being cool but went a bit lame, like emo Cutter/Crokus...
Agree about the "Hey I'm a strong female character and no matter what those stupid men say, I am more intelligent and witty than they could ever be" ones from any generic Eddings book. Not got a problem with strong female characters at all, but when every single woman is exactly the same and none of them ever says or does anything remotely wrong, it just gets grating.
And pretty much GRRM character frustrates me...

Kate from Lost - Evangeline Lilly is actually a decent to good actress, depending on what material she has to work with. However, the writers have decided to make Kate do completely and incomprehensibly dumb things on a regular basis. The out of character decisions are not based upon any sort of recognizable logic, nor do they result in good things happening. It's gotten to a point where the Lost fanbase largely goes "A Kate-centric episode? We await the surfeit of idiocy..." and recognize that Kate exists as a mechanism to tug at female heart-strings and perhaps advance the plot a little.
Samwise Gamgee - existed solely to act as the shining exemplar of faith and devotion in a grim series. The final sequences would have meant more if Frodo was locked in a battle between obsessions with destroying the Ring, keeping the ring and dealing with Gollum's intricacies alone, but Tolkien couldn't bring himself to go there in the series. As a result, the books suffer from a dead-weight character who doesn't do anything of mention other than say "Don't do it, buddy!"

generally all of the new characters introduced in feist's new books. all rehashed reworkings of old characters but without the charm. i mean how many jimmy the hand variants does he need to reintroduce.

Achamian, in the series by Scott Bakker. I don't like the books to begin with (although the perfect Byzanthian strategist dude was arrogant enough to be fun, same for crazy barbarian dude), but I disliked this guy so much I even went and searched for his name in the book itself.
Every single character in The Black Magician Trilogy by Trudy Canavan. Yes, I read all three books.
The sadist Gestapo rapist in Reaper's Gale. Awesome book, horrid character and imho the book would have been better without him.

The amount of books I read is considerably limited compared to most of you guys, so it's gonna be kinda cluttered.

In no particular order:
Karsa Orlong – I really hate the mass-murdering, mass-raping brute. To be bad-ass alone doesn't qualify for me.
Every character from Gail Z. Martins Necromancer-series. – That kind of two-dimensional characters are barley tolerable in a RPG, but in a book… no way!
Bayaz (Abercrombie) – The Idea of an anti-Gandalf might have been new and interesting, but Bayaz is only crazy and bad. I can find nothing inspiring in him.
Khellus (R. Scott Bakker) – Mind-manipulative, mad Tyrant. (And I am convinced that he's going to become the No-God in the second Apocalipse!)
Locke Lamora (Scott Lynch) – Kind of a nice try, but imo far too boring.

now that I have put those bunch of snobby huffing bitches out there for all to agree with, I'll continue.

5 - Althalus, I apologise to everyone for bringing this dog shit book back into memory, but he had to be listed.

Here they are in no particular order.
Cersei Lanister: apart from being a horrible person I really don't think she is on par with Martin's other character in depth or interest(I would have gone for Sansa but she redeemed herself in AFFC by being the witness to the plays of the greatest manipulator ever)
Jezal dan Luthar: I'm still at The Blade Itself but plan without doubt to read the other books. Tell me does he change? Because he really is a joke.
Bella Swan: Agh! Why did I read those books? Why?
Edward Cullen: The same as above plus a heavy dose of disgusting and rather ridiculus maschilism.
Crokus: Because there must be a MBotF character or they'll accuse us of partiality
I was wondering wether putting either Achamian or Kellhus. But Akka had an incredible transformation in The Judging Eye and I actually started to like him, while Kellhus was an awesome character in the first book before spiraling downwards in the other books

Any protagonist from any Stephen R. Donaldson book.
Really, not even a contest.
Especially the uber-passive, super-victim chick from the Mirror duology - holy crap, was she annoying to read about. She just floated along, screwing everything up for everyone by never actually doing anything but being a simpering twat. And she was the main POV for the books. She made Covenant look like a fascinating, uncomplaining Hero.
I don't remember much about the one Gap book I read, except that the main-character was a slaver/rapist who was treated bizarrely sympathetically, even by his victim (I vaguely recall that he kept her imprisoned on his ship as a fuck-toy, but she didn't seem to hold it against him, or something).
Really, not even a contest.
