Okay, so what exactly are the Barghast? I don't remember a clear explanation ever given.

I don't know about quills but I believe Trotts has crow feather fetishes.
And yes Barghast are related to TT. They are descendants of Imass who mixed with the Toblalaki

The Barghast really 1st appear in MoI - maybe you were mixing descriptions up with Gruntle and his tiger group?

can't see how you could find the barghast "quite different" from MoI to DoD. in MoI there are duels galore, the council looks like a demonic metal concert and humbraul taur can barely keep things in check. same thing in DoD, except circumstances have been worsened considerably and the clans are split up

Good to see I'm not the only one confused with this. The breeding between races is definitely strange. Imass and Toblakai? How does that work? Better yet, WHY does that work? 10 foot tall giants and short, stocky Neanderthals? That would be some interesting sex.

What about Icarium? He's half Jaghut, half Toblakai, yet looks completely like a Jaghut.

To be honest, somehow in the beginning I also pictured them with some kind of fur.

Later on when I started playing the Witcher again on my new pc I found out why I pictured the Erikson Barghast as furry, because
in the game there are Barghast too, but there they are some kind of rabied dogs on steriods.

So somehow I mixed things up with the name and created the furry people in my mind.

I kinda pictured them like Sully from Monsters Inc, but scarier.

When they described Trotts to me I had the impression that he was somewhat exotic (when he got the job as extra security for the Fete). Not to mention they are always mentioning how he flashed his teeth (or something like that), which makes it look all the more animalistic.

Anyway, who cares? I kind of picture them like a kind of muscular human, about a foot or two taller than a normal man, and bulky. But when I read the book I just "see" them as a kind of thundercat with a triangular-shaped face, even though I KNOW they look like I previously described.

It works well. It makes the whole Bhargast race all the more fun.

I mean, if Bhargasts like flashing their teeth cause it looks nice... Well, I imagine girls should follow a similar logic. Why not?

If Bhargasts take their time and put themselves through all the trouble of prettying their teeth just to show it off, women, who go through the same process, should follow the example.

A campaign should be started to increase the number siliconed flashers. And then, when it gets big enough, we may expand the campaign to non-siliconed flashers (or natural flashers, if you will). Furthermore, we can later on create branches for big and small, natural or siliconed.

Ah... The world would be a better place.

Well, a man has to think simple if he wants to live long.

And showing off breasts HAS to include nipple, or else I'm just looking at a ball of fat - and silicone. That's why I love New Orlean's Mardi Gras.

damn! glad others have been wondering about this too!! i really felt i couldnt find good descriptions of them? from the way they talked and the minimal descriptions i personally was picturing the ogres from the Warcraft II game? no shirts, painted/tattooed, big/fat like sumo wrestlers. and coz in the game they kinda talked dumb/broken grammar. also the game gave me the image of bald heads with just pony tail strands of hair even tho the book does described more hair than that. its funny how we all imagine something and it really sticks!

so of course i started questioning that appearance when Hetan is jumping every male around and they (well at least Gruntle?) didnt think of her as totally unattractive so i started wondering! also started wondering when Hetan and Cafal run into Tool and KIlava at the end and think of them as Barghast. so thanks for the descriptions above!

I've always pictured them as an amalgamation of orc portrayals, minus the tusks. They strike me as similar in demeanor and appearance to the orcs of Warcraft, Warhammer and standard fantasy-fare. All of which I don't regard as a bad thing-who doesn't like a race that will wax spiritually with you as soon as they would split your skull?
