What was that storm? ... the one that froze stuff...

I just thought he was apologising to Mother Dark, really.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

But for what though? The slaughter, or the whole Dragnipur debacle and sacrifice of Rake? I think the latter.

Well it wasn't for making her sleep in the wet patch about half a million years ago, clearly.

The storm seemed to be raging around the wastelands for several days - weeks even? - before Draconus finally "landed".
I think this had led me to believe that it was more than just his arrival.

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves / Did gyre and gimble in the wabe; / All mimsy were the borogoves, / And the mome raths outgrabe.
"Beware the Jabberwock, my son! / The jaws that bite, the claws that catch! / Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun /The frumious Bandersnatch!"
He took his vorpal sword in hand: / Long time the manxome foe he sought— /So rested he by the Tumtum tree, /And stood awhile in thought.

A lot of it was the Short-tails blasting around and blowing the crap out of things, and I think only the last scene was Draconus.

From memory, the K'Chain storms just blew everyone to shit, while Draconus' storm froze people solid and crushed them into putty.

That scene was all manner of ominous. We'd had Elder Gods come down before, but this was...massive.
I reckon Draconus will need to be humbled again. He seems pretty intent on being as nasty as possible.

It has been proven beyond all reasonable doubt that the most powerful force on Wu is a bunch of messed-up Malazans with Moranth munitions.

A few things:
1) Was Draconus' apology really a sincere apology? Call me a doof, but when I read those words it felt like an age-old release of a pain he'd held all that time within Dragnipur - like something he'd wanted to say to a loved one bacj before he got shived in the worst way. I did not think he was sad or apologizing over killing two armies who likely would have killed themselves anyway...
2) There was the storm chasing the KCCM, but then it was then the Ice Jaghut chasing them eventually. The two are distinct, mais oui? Did Kalyth simply outrun it then? Sag'Churok is the Prefontaine of Wu?
3) What about the storm that kills Bargast and Bolkando (I think - 'combatants' at any rate) about 2/5s through the book? What that the random KCCM storm or was that the Draconus storm? It didn't freeze, it just exploded, so I assume it was the other one. But then, pardon my ignorance, what is THAT storm and where did IT come from?
Side note: It's both amazing and not surprising, how smart and mature everyone is on this Internet forum.

Also: How the f%$# did I read 9000 pages of Malazan tales and not even know the world was called Wu? WTF!>!>! I have just picked that up from the forum over the last week. That is something seriously messed up. About ten years of reading and last week I figured out the name of the friggin' planet. Either I'm the idiot half brother of Korbolo Dom or this is both the most epic and ridiculous book series ever. Wu. HA!

Wu ain't official nomenclature. Also the storms are KCNR generated. Their blasters seem to use environmental electricity and subsequently affect the weather. They're like ghostbuster proton packs that shoot lightning. I think.

agreed. Wu is just a silly little name that ICE and SE bandied about back in the day. its not official
and to put this straight - the only storm that was draconus is the one that freezes the gathered barghast clans and akrynnai. all the others are either kcnr, or kcnr getting f'ed up by 14 undead jaghut.
There's a fine line between genius and insanity. I have erased this line.
