The fat lady thread where it said she can eat 70 pieces of sushi has got me thinking about this now...

I freakin love sushi

I started on the shitty stuff from the supermarket...rolls with cooked fish in it,

Then moved to vancouver and started eating rolls with uncooked fish in em.

Then the obvious next step was the nigiri stuff, with the little rice ball and the slab of fish ontop

and now I'm onto the straight sashimi and am a total sushi snob and can't stand the rolls now.

Unfortunately my redneck-land city has no sushi restaurant that's worth a damn.

I haven't run into a type I don't like yet. The octopus can be a little tough to get your mind around, but tastes oh so delicious.

Anybody else love sushis?

Yes. The very best was at Tsukiji, and nothing will ever beat that. Pity, really - everything else is stale now :p

I refuse to pay inflated prices for such a small mouthful of rice and raw fish.

Sushi is for hipsters.

I'd more than love to try, but... the supply in this country is low, it's hard to find ingredients or "ready" products, and if you do, they're crazy expensive. The sushi restaurants are insanely expensive.
My best chance is to respond to the invitation I got from a friend to eat sushi at her place :>

I love sushi, but it can be super expensive. Luckily there's lots of cheap chinese places and fish resturaunts that also do sushi round here, although I'm sure the stuff would make a sushi snob gag. We also attempt to make out own pretty often - it's never as good as the restuarant stuff, but it's lots of fun and super cheap :p

There's one just by my university in Oslo that serves great Sushi for very low prices. Dunno how they do it, but as they make it right in front of you at least I can tell the fish is fresh.

Its a density thing. Vancouver went through a supply surge in sushi restaurants a few years back and they saturated the market. Nobody can compete unless they keep prices low or bill themselves as a "premium sushi" restaurant.

Out east where I live now, damn things are few and FAR between. There is no such thing as cheap sushi in this end of the country.

I have a hard time figuring out my favourite, cause it changes from time to time. At present, I like

- Surf clam...but most restaurants have crappy cuts of it
- Tuna (of course)
- Mackerel....which I know is a "low-grade" fish, but I really like the taste and texture for whatever reason.
- octopusses


Went through a phase of liking the roe awhile back, like salmon and smelt roe, but I'm kind of off that.

And I lost my insane need for ultra-strength wasabi when I graduated to sashimi levels. I only like it with rolls now.

Last time I had sushi I almost lost a piece. I found it cowering behind a grain of rice. Too small for me, really.

Wasabi mayonnaise and chips, however, is fantastic.

I don't like sushi.

I like the following: meat (animal flesh) + fire (heat source) = good.

Raw fish doesn't do it for me.

I also agree with Apt they are almost tailer made for hipsters and wapanese and they're overpriced. Even here where there's a sushi shop on every corner they're still grossly overpriced.
But being hip is expensive and so hipsters buy themselves into debt eating the things.

I enjoy sushi whenever I can. If I am out at a restaurant which serves sushi I always get some as an appetizer. There is one really good place where I live that serves all sorts of sushi... if it wasn't so expensive I would eat there every day.
