Isn't it stated somewhere in HoC (or was it DG?) that his Bloodsword would cut through (Aren?) steel?

Oh good... Well with about 200 pages to go, I've just been told the end to HoC. Might as well put it down. Thanks D'rek..
I think I'll avoid this forum while I'm in the middle of a book in future..

Well, yah, that's how the board operates. The forum for each book assumes readers have completed that book, and everyone is free to discuss anything that has happened in that book or the ones previous. Restrictions are on future books.

Yeah, thanks, I'm new to the forum so I'll know for future visits.. Unfortunately I've found that out the hard way.
Still gonna finish the book, obviously..

Take it as just more motivation to finish the series ASAP!

About Karsa's bloodsword:
The Aren steel line:
The edge may be crazy sharp or just similar to a normal sword, but it clearly isn't blunted.
About Silgar:
We know Silgar lies somewhat to Karsa and Torvald, because he heads straight for Ehrlitan in the morning instead of wandering the desert in the wrong direction. However, I think it likely he only discovered where they were upon reaching the shore. He says that he doesn't know where the portal leads, and that he is following someone who opened it, rather than directing its use. Even when they land in the water, Karsa has to threaten Silgar with death to get him to swim towards the light that Torvald sees, and Silgar complains even after that that they are wasting their energy by swimming in the dark. If he really knew they were in the Otataral Sea near Seven Cities, I don't think he would advise floating in shark-infested water all through the night; his plan was to wait for daylight and then find the shore.
Also, I don't see how Silgar benefits from lying about where the portal leads before they go through it; you'd think if he knew it went back to their own world, he would share that knowledge to convince the others to take the portal. So it's hard to say how much he's lying, but I think he genuinely had no idea where it led and was not able to control the portal's destination. He says clearly that "someone" opened a portal - the passage doesn't even suggest that the portal might be a random rent that coincidentally happens to exit just north of Seven Cities.
But, the evidence is circumstantial at best and I think it could be argued either way. I just don't think Silgar is that smart or powerful.
House of Chains, Tor MMPB, p.53-54 said:
The blade's wood was deep red, almost black, the glassy polish making the painted warcrest seem to float a finger's width above the surface. The weapon's edge was almost translucent, where the blood-oil rubbed into the grain had hardened, coming to replace the wood. There were no nicks or notches along the edge, only a slight rippling of the line where damage had repaired itself, for blood-oil clung to its memory and would little tolerate denting or scarring.
The Aren steel line:
House of Chains, Tor MMPB, p.158 said:
Cord reached down and carefully slid his hand between the burning strands to tap a finger against the bloodsword. "So here's one of the famed wooden swords. So hard it breaks Aren steel."
"Look at the edge," Shard said. "It's that resin they use that makes the edge-"

About Silgar:
House of Chains, Tor MMPB, p.215 said:
Silgar climbed in and crouched down beside the dory's prow. "I shall open a portal," he announced, his voice a rasp. "I can only do so but once-"
"Then why didn't you leave a long time ago?" Torvald demanded, as he slipped the last line loose and clambered aboard.
"There was no path before - out on the sea. But now, here - someone has opened a gate. Close. The fabric is...weakened. I've not the skill to do such a thing myself. But I can follow."
[...]
"Follow?" Torvald repeated. "Where?"
To that Silgar simply shook his head.

"Where are we?" Karsa asked the slavemaster.
"How should I know?" the Nathii snapped. "I did not fashion the gate, I simply made use of it - and it had mostly closed, which is why the floor of the boat did not come with us. It was sheared clean off. None the less, I believe we are in a sea, beneath an overcast sky. Were there no ambient light, we'd not be able to see each other right now. Alas, I can hear no coast, though it's so calm there might be no waves to brush the shoreline."

We sail in and out of Time, then back again. There is only one ship, the captain says. All the ships we hail between the galaxies or suns are this ship.
